E63 out in June.
In May issue of UK "CAR" mag...
E63 out in June ... in N/A form.
CLK63 & CLS63 in autumn.
C class gets detuned version with 450bhp in 2007.
6.3 motor will get mild boost turbo version "Hammer I" (571bhp / 664lbft) and higher pressure turbo version "Hammer II" (707bhp / 885lbft - limited to 737lbft in first and second to save tranny).
SL & S class remain with the old V8 and V12 ... for now.
So blowers are toast ... but turbo's will continue.
There we go ... I will certainly book a test on the E63 ... just to see!
Rgds Steve.

Sorry guys did not want to confuse - or get ya all excited!
E63 out in June - normally aspirated "stock" 514bhp / 465lbft engine.
The 6.3 will be turboed in two versions as described above. Where these motors go (or when they are due) it does not say - but looks like SL / S class and who knows mbe a ltd edition E to wack the M5 proper
- but thats me wishing and speculating. Think late 2007 for the turbo versions... but thats kinda in line with the arrival of the C63 in 2007.
The CLS63 is rated at 4.5 seconds 0-62mph. Due September around 10% more expensive than the CLS55....!!!
The CLK63 is rated at 4.6 seconds 0-62mph. (detuned to 481bhp / 465lbft), Also due September.
The C63 has 450bhp detuned version out in 2007 - thats all she wrote.
Source is CAR magazine UK version. May edition - I subscribe so I get it earlier ... page 40.

One of the US car rags said that we'd only see the CLK63 droptop on our shores, not the coupe. Anyone confirm?

God I hope not... a coupe CLK63 vs M6 would be a nice race...
I think overall around town and freeway the CLK63, and probably at the track.. the M6.
afterall the CLK63 body and suspension is dated compared to the M.

Thanks for the "official" update Steve... It's exactly what many of us have been saying for months now. I hope this puts to rest the talk of a NA SL63 in 2008.

Holly shiet.... 6.3L engine in C-class???
![bow](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bowdown.gif)
I thought 5.5L is already very big for a car this small...
Isn't C-class design also due in 2007? If there is an engine change, it's not typical that MB also changes the design, correct? Otherwise, there would be too many bugs to be sorted out.

Topaz Blue M3.....to upcoming E63
Anyone heard anything else as of yet? Seems strange that they have been tight-lipped about the E63 only to say that it will launch in 2 months!! Pics and specs for the CLS63 and the CLK63 have been around since Feb. Not being neg, just curious. Rumors were that it would debut this month at the upcoming auto shows. Hope it's correct tho', wasn't expecting to get into one before Oct-Nov but maybe sooner.....

You make a very good point! I hope they don't just slap on the 63 motor on the existing E chasis as that would defeat the whole marketing ploy of "AMG taking over the complete car from the ground up"
IMO, the 63 motor on an otherwise unchanged E would be a big disappointment, the car needs better suspension, steering and brakes

I think we see a better package, and it may be standard equipment. Think thats why the performance pack was not introduced on the E55. They rather worked the new suspension with the new engine weight etc ... than do it twice over. June release also ties in with E facelift which is due around then.
I will get onto my MB contact and ask her to book an E63 test drive and see what she says..... hehehehe.
P.S. I think all units with the 63 engine will have a new 7 speed tranny ... not sure if the 7 speeders make it into the SL / S yet though.

Mb Uk Update
Well they dont have the pricing / info release yet but will have it "in a few weeks". Face lift model production starts in June - demo models only available in late July.
They will send info as and when it becomes available.

My dealership called me and said the same as above...June 2006 for the 63 AMG cars. I'd like to have a new E63 or CLS63 but I don't think I want to pay all that $$$ for a car with less torque then my current car.

As far as people trading in their E55's for the E63... I'd wait as the new E CLASS is due out some time in mid to late 2008.

If AMG makes good on their promise, the overall package should be superior to the E55. Here is what I think:
1) the 7 speed will def help keep the E63 "in the game" north of 100mph against the M5, something the E55 hasn't been doing well.
2) The torque is still competitive to keep the E63 running even against the E55 in 0-60, considering the E55 has alot of traction issues...the less torque in the case of E63 may be a blessing in disguise
3) The steering, brakes, and aerodynaics of AMG engineering should amount to something that is overall better than the E55
The only thing that would be lacking is the torque as measured by the buttometer
