Only on boost. The 55k isn't boosting all the time, the supercharger clutch disengages, just like the bypass valve on other blowers allows boost to recirculate (on maf systems) or vent to atmosphere.
That said, I can't imagine the E63 getting worse gas mileage than what I get in my E55

M5 consumption is attrocious apparently .... with similar style motors (m5 / 6.2 - i.e. N/A & higher revving - besides the obvious v10 vs V8) I can't see the 6.2 being frugal.
P.S. I'll test drive the E63 and then decide ... but I think I am going to wait for the new E in '08/9 - the E63 will need to be amazingly better for me to switch from my '06 55.
I might just go K2 + TB , LSD and 19" and say thank you very much - what more could you want !!!

If the CLK63 has it than the E63 should have it as well.

All the specs of the CLK63 are there, including 0-100km/h time, fuel consumption (in L/100km), ABC suspension, etc, etc.

mileage
I hope mileage is better. My wife and I are considering the CLK63 as a replacement for my E. Running $3.20 here is The OC for premium.

This is an inexplicable disparity... unless, the AMG people believe they've tuned the conventional E suspension so well, with their Direct Control and whatnot, that the car no longer needs extra dampers to keep it level! Of course, that's just wishful thinking... for now.

Pricing = to M5?
One dealer I spoke with thought the pricing would be comparable to the M5, its competitor, which means close to current MSRP, just less discounting.

Direct Control is not a device nor a system. This name was started being used by MB in all their promotion materials, bronchures since 2004 the W203 got a facelift. Subsequently , MB claimed that Direct Control is also being incorporated into the CLK-Class.
Direct Control is MB's tuning method , once incorporated, MB claims that the steering feel and responsiveness will be improved. I believe Direct Control represents a set of new parameters and adjustments that applied to the suspension and steering hardware.
There is one thing I cannot be sure, is which model will get the Direct Control treatment? C280 and above ? All CLK models? One thing for sure is, in 2004, only C55 and some CLK will have Direct Control. SLK will have it but I am not sure if SLK200Kwill still have it? Look like all AMGs , 350+ will have it...

on the other hand, i'm fairly receptive to the argument of some economists that in "real dollars" the price of gas has remained relatively constant or even decreased since the early/mid 1970's. but you weren't saying that, so never mind.
