The E55 Rock Star Factor

I am really surprised at all the attention the E55 gets.I had been driving an M3 and other than a few thumbs up from time to time from teenagers,it rarely got a second look.In the two weeks I've had my E55,all sorts seem to be attracted to this car.

It's not attention that you are getting... It's RESPECT!

It is a status symbol. It's like wearing a Rolex or other nice watch. You can tell alot about a guy by the car he drives and the watch he wears.

guess it depends on where you live, down here in south florida, I don't seem to get much attention with the E55.... if I'm in the Viper it's a whole different story.... camera phones everywhere....

No one appears to know what an AMG is, but I could care less

I'm with you. Maybe more people notice than I think, but, because I don't give a crap, I don't notice that they are noticing . . . ..

The vast majority of people have no idea was AMG means and, even if they did, they would care less.

The only thing it tells me is that the guy has some money, or knows someone who has some money.
In otherwords, it tells me nothing about the guy, other than his present station in life.

Actually, on the contrary, I rarely get noticed in the E55, which is a good thing. Part of the reason I got it was for the "plain jane" factor, and also because I have a nasty habit of speeding. I've had pretty good luck not getting noticed so far. I do get the occasional 'wtf?!' look when I pass people though. I'm tempted to de-badge the car, and getting some toned down rims (like the stockers on the E350). My 996T, on the other hand, is **** star material. Of course, it's speed yellow, techart kit, and 19"s and whenever I take it out it grabs a whole lot of attention.

And about the sneakers and watches thing, I don't think that's very true at all. I run around in my nikes all the time, have a cheapo $200 watch, but my garage is getting full. So, it's not very accurate

Depends on the weather
It might have something to do with my location. There are not a lot of higher end cars in Wisconsin. I expect the rockstar thing when I take my Lambo out. It's yellow and whenever I take it out it gets photographed, gas fillups is an event etc...
I was just really surprised at the amount of attention the E55 gets.

Hey I am a few minutes out of Madison in Verona. I have a 01 E55. Hope to see you around. Most people I see driving a Mercedes (non AMG) in Madison are 70 yo people. It is nice to know there are a few new "Beasts" around.

I agree, anyone that knows anything about this or any other Kompressor 55, has a fair amount of respect for them.

Maybe it's because Nicole Richie drives one. WAIT! She's not a rock star (which begs the question - what is she anyway?).

I have personally applying numerous aftermarket parts on both my Mustang Mach 1 and my Lincoln Towncar. On my 55th birthday I decided to get the best of both worlds: Speed and luxury. My E55 is an overkill. And, AMG completely satisfied my need for aftermarket. OK, I lied. Gonna drop her about an inch in the very near future.

That's why the dealers in FL are still selling them at MSRP, while other dealers are selling them at cost.

Zimbrick sold an SL65 in black / berry red interior last July. Also there is a CL55 in the Walnut Hills area by Hilldale.

Cool...I consider myself an old gearhead and still am at 49 y.o....by "old" I meant owning musclecars back when they weren't worth a kings ransom. Looks like I can't pop open the hood and put a set of points in this one but thats fine...I like the fact that I can whip on it with the A/C blowing and blow away a lot of the stuff on the street ! Including the old musclecars I love so much. Musclecar guys know what AMG stands for...just like thy know what Yenko , Mr. Norm, Royal , etc. stood for. Those guys were Yesterdays Renntech , Kleeman,EVO etc. Horsepower , torque , a blower and luxury. Man thats about all you can ask for .

I also came from an E46 M3 and any attention was mainly from the younger crowd and true auto enthusiast.

When I first got my E55 about the only comments and looks I received were mainly from people familiar with the AMG line and that was fine with me. Fortunately or unfortunately, since the mods were completed (Kleemann, rear spoiler, hood emblem and the BBS LM's) people are all over this car. Every time I return to my parked car it seems that someone is standing around looking at it (young and old, even non-enthusiast). So much for flying under the radar.
