FSS Menu - How many quarts of oil does your indicator show?

The book directs us to check our oil and it says 'oil level ok' in the regular menu. But for a more detailed indicator, we can go to the fss menu by putting the key in and turning to the first position, hitting the reset button three times and going to the part of the in-dash display that has either the outside temp or the speed. Then, use the up/down arrows to go into the fss menu, one page of which has a bunch of software info and it gives an indication of your oil level. If you go to that page and then turn the key one more click to the second position, it will measure your oil.

Mine says 7.2 quarts. I have 600 miles on my cls55 and I was wondering where most cars say their oil level is.....

I posted about this recently, I don't know about the CLS 55 but the E55's oil pan has two levels and the more detailed read out is about .85/.90 of a quart low in it's reading where the regular oil level measure that say's either ok, too low or too high compensates for the difference. E55's checked with a dipstick should read 145mm when cold. My 06 E55 shows 7.8 quarts via the detailed readout after the car has sat for a few hrs, so if you add the .85-.90 it's right under 9 quarts. My 55 has about 300 miles.

thanks rjc, I believe I saw your post. 2 questions:

1. Is that where its supposed to be, 9 quarts, indicated here?

2. how does the 'dealer dipstick' method work? i wonder if it makes sense to buy one. how does it work?

The total amount of oil for the E55 is 9 quarts, I'd imagine the CLS55 is exactly the same (check your owner's manual). So if your display is reading 7.2 figure it has another .85-.90 of a quart in it. The dealer has a generic dipstick, there is a small redcap at the center rear portion of the engine, that pulls off and the dipstick is inserted to measure the oil level. Mine was just checked cold and is was about 145mm. Hope this helps .

yes it does. Thanks.

I have 600 miles on the car so I wonder if it may burn a little oil since its new. The 'generic' way says oil level is fine, so i'll just go with that for now. I'm just trying to get to know the vehicle. Thanks.

It's normal to use a little oil during break-in. I'm trying to get to know the 55 too, so I know exactly what you mean
