*** Update, Spray on Tail Light Tint, don't do it!!!! ***

ok, well, its like Exotic Warranty. I try it and lose for the benefit of the community.

Same with the my recent experiment with the spray on tail light tint. My advice, don't do it. Here's why:

Vans, Nite Shade, etc, all have these spray on paints... the Vans in particular looks shiny and nice.

However, it doesn't dry well. Even when it does, it is highly suceptible to marking and scratching. WAY TOO sensitive for me, or any of you, for sure.

So, it looks nice... but one detailer scrubbing a little too hard and BAM, nice scratch / mark.

I'm taking it off. The rubbing compound works really well at that!

However, I did see a car with the exact same job and upon closer inspection it was... REGULAR WINDOW TINT. I'm going to have that done and post pics...

ugh... live and learn. My E55 list so far:

1) No extended after market warranties
2) No spray on tint

Glad to be of service...

i tried the spray can tint and it was horrible-- small drip marks, tiny bubbles, etc. then i took it to my body shop and WOW, it was like night and day. they removed the junk i put on and tinted it professionally. the finish on it is unbelievable. shiny and very, very smooth. also, very durable.

Yeah, I wouldn't try spray on tint. But for kicks, Loren, got any pics before you took it off?

Did you clear-coat it? I did this to a 3rd brake light on a former vehicle and it turned out great and could be washed/waxed like the rest of the car.

Anyway, as for the "window tint" on the brake light - what you saw was probably not window tint. Window tint will not conform to the compound curve/shape of the tails. People are using the equivalent of clear bra material that has a tint to it - that is likely what you saw. Its thick and conforms somewhat to curves.

Try www.rockblocker.com, they might sell a bulk sheet to you.
