Do you guys manually downshift to lowest possible gear, and then go or just nail it on the third honk?

I always make sure the rpm is in 3500-4000 range (to get max torque power) so to accomplish that I usually downshift to the gear that will take it to that range and than nail it and let it do the upshifting itself. When you're doing 40, downshift to 1st gear, 60 downshift to 2nd and so on and you'll definitely feel like you're riding a rollercoaster

Tranny program selector in "S" mode, pull the console shifter all the way to the left and it will automatically select the optimum gear for acceleration at any speed.

does this S mode refer to the summer/winter switch? or does it have to be selected through computer?

you can also do the same thing by holding down the downshift button on the steering column

honduh, bimmer, bEnz, ferrari and etc
if you just floor it, the auto tranny will go to the lowest possible gear anyway.

Yes, but that isn't the quickest way is it? It does take a little while for it to downshift a few gears.

But if you do manually downshift to a gear that will get the car into an optimal midrange rpm level, you would have the manually shift throughout the race don't you?

So that's why I asked, curious which way is faster.

Not necessarily - it depends on your speed and gear. If you follow the procedure mentioned it will override any auto programming and assure that you're in the best possible gear.

Newton: once you've done the manual downshift (in Sport mode), you allow it to upshift automatically in Sport mode.
