carbon fiber hood for E55

Someone here knows if there a place out there that sells E55 CF hood with vents? I found this one http://www.euroteckmotorsports.com/i...53&product=160 but I don't think it comes with vents. I think the vents should keep the engine bay cooler in summer.

Is that an outdated link? Is Neal still offering that group buy on the CF hood? If so, I'm in.

That was the look we were originally going to do. But we decied not to since after people in the group buy started to back out because they were scared of water damage, so i decided i will not do it. I will say, i am sure the vents would be functional, i see the heat coming out of the hood vents of my Viper when i am stopped at a light. Or if you put your hands over the hood you don't feel much heat till you go over the vents.

It's funny how the whole cf hood thread keeps popping up every so often. If people didn't back out before there would be a good number of us with cf hoods on our E55's with vents...oh well...

I know... that sucks.

Neal -- how many would you need to do the hoods with vents? Make everyone prepay so they can't back out.

We will not even offer a group buy on this with or without vents, at least not for right now. That hood is not cheap. But we actually did not make that CF hood ourselves, it was done by another company for us which is why I don't have such great prices on it. I will admit, you have never seen such a quality CF job until you saw that hood. The hood is the largest piece of sheet metal on your car, you want it to look perfect without one single imperfection. Its one thing I would not go cheap on. We even offer one that is full CF for a little bit more money. Even though they look the same, the one for $1,900 is built on a fiberglass shell like most CF parts. Its not a bad thing though.

I am going to IM you tomorrow, have tons of questions for you about Vegas!

P.S the E55 lips are a few weeks away.

Question from the back row here! How much for a full SILVER CF hood WITH vents, custom made just for me and only me, no group buy? I never had a problem with water damage worries, as you know, and I was all for this. Time to step away from the group. But vents are the thing I really want... so how could you swing it (without answering no)...?

Thanks,

Loren

For one with vents, I would say about $1,500 for a one off. BUT that is not including the cost I need to get a hood. So unless you will want to give me your good and drive around with no hood for a few weeks, possibly over a month, that wont work. So you can add the price of a factory hood on top of that. I think they are about $900.

So, you're saying that you can't take hood you sell already and merely add vents? It all has be prefab beforehand? I'm not carbon fiber aware, obviously...

Well, I mentioned earlier that we actually did not make that hood ourselves, it was done for us by another company, I once spoke with them about vents and they definitely were not going to do it, infact they were very against it. So I would need to make a new mold and need a new hood. But yes, you cannot add vents without a making a new mold with vents. Unless you wanted to bring it somewhere and have them cut vents, i am not sure how the CF would handle someone cutting in it though....

LOL, in all honesty, i would not even have time to do this hood for you now. Your better off waiting, i may see about doing them with the vents for a group buy in the future, or i may just do it with no group buy at all.

I did not think the stock hoods were all that heavy. Has anyone weighed both? Stock vs. Carbon/fiberglass ???

Or is this just a looks thing?

Eurotek's web site says that the carbon fiber hood saves 15 pounds. Same for the carbon fiber trunk. I could diet and lose 15 pounds. I want/need the air vents....

I am sure they could and I also think I saw one on this site. I rather have them punch out holes in a carbon fiber hood.

Well you can't "punch out"on carbon fiber it would crumble and break apart. but tin it would work.

couldnt you just cut a hole into the CF hood and then install CF vents or tin vents or whatever, then use a resin to bond the vent to the CF?
