2005 E55 Strange noise
Hi All-
I have a 2005 e55 with 12k on the clock, still running the stock tires. (Just ordered a set of PS2s). I am noticing a sound coming from the front end, that is velocity dependent- faster cycle at higher speed, sort of a low pitched oscillation, more than a vibration. It is worse on certain road surfaces, but is present even at lower speeds - say starting at 25-30, and much less so by 80mph (I'm assuming it is being drowned out by other sounds at higher speeds). Do you think the new tires will solve this problem? Could it be related to warped brake rotors?
I have heard about driveshaft and motor mount problems, and I'm hoping that my car is free of those issues. Any of your thoughts would be appreciated.
Best,
MM

For sure have them take a look at the mounts as they go bad frequently on these, but sounds like tires to me.
My Contis made allllll kinds of noise and thought I was having major front end trouble......new PS2's....BAM, all gone.
Check those mounts though....

Look for uneven wear or cupping on the inside edges of the front tires. The noise on my '04 appeared so suddenly (we were on vacation in Michigan) that I found a dealer (there are only 7 in Michigan) and had him look at the front end. I thought it sounded like a wheel bearing going bad.
It was those damn Conti's. What a POS.
