for a higher gear ratio for our e55s just install an SL55 or CL55 gears....I found a used cl55, installed the gears and never had a problem. but you have to find yourself a cl or an SL from the same year as your car...my E is 2003 and the CL was 2003..

 

Although I am a proponent of using AMG aftermarket parts, I would take the Quaife unit over the AMG unit for a number of reasons in this case. For one, the AMG unit costs at least twice as much as the Quaife. Additionally, the AMG unit does not provide nearly as much locking capacity as does the Quaife. Plus, Quaife is a specialist when it comes to differentials. They have been in the industry for a while and have a reputation for providing a stout product.

I have negotiated an "out the door" price of $1450 with a certain vendor if 5 people commit to purchase (that's right, shipping included). Send me a PM if you're interested at this price. If we can get substantially more people (e.g. 10-12) than there might be a further price reduction, however I have not yet hammered out the details on that yet.
