Rubber for our beasts ...?

http://www.safercars.gov/Tires/pages/TireRatings.cfm

This site has a list of all makes and ratings ... a popular selection treadwear ratings read as follows ...

Dunlop SP Sport 200
Goodyear GS-D series 180
B'stone Pontenza Re01-05's 140
Mich PS2's 220
Yokohama Advan A048 60 !!
Pirelli Zero (nero & rosso) 220
Continental SC2 220

How correlatated are the treadwear ratings to dry grip ... I would think the lower the treadwear the better the grip - on this basis the YOKO's look the part ... anyone try them yet ?

generally, lower treadwear correlates to better grip, and less tire life..

I had some Kumo's on my Viper that had a treadwear of 40, and they were amazing, I could get on the Viper in 1st gear, coming out of a corner, and not do a 360 spin....

of course those Kumo's were only for dry street use, and were a real hazard on wet roads....

are those Yoko's autocross tires, they must be track/street tires with a rating that low....

Looks the part ... ratings go from 160-120-60 for the different ADVAN versions ... maybe I try these instead of the PS2... when I fit the Quaife LSD.

Tirerack.com has a nice article comparing extreme performance tires. It had the B'Stone's, the Yoko's, and some others. The B'Stone's and Yoko's finished way ahead of the rest with the B'Stone's winning because of better wet performance and less road noise. They seem like a great compromise between DR's and Ultra High Performance street tires.

Another wealth of information here (including on-line calculators) will answer almost all your tyre/wheel combo questions ...

http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html

Ahh by the way found the ultimate dry tyre I think ....

http://www.michelinman.com/overview/..._cup/1719.html

Semi-Slick really for the road but that should bite like a SOAB. be preapred to change it often (treadwear rating of 80) - wet grip will be questionable I think.

I was thinking Pilot Cups on rear only - keep conti up front ....

Any thots ?

EDIT : Err ... given this comment its probably not a good idea to go for the Cup's

"Because of the shallow depth of the tread, the Pilot Sport Cup tyre should not be used in very wet conditions."

Still would love to try them out at the strip / track.

Guess I am back ton the Advan's... or PS2's...

Boils down to these two for max performance summer rubber ... that has some safety margin for rain. Yoko Advan Neova AD07 & B/stone RE01R's... looks like the answer for rears and mbe go a little more conservative on the fronts, e.g. maybe all season type tyre like PS2's

PS Cups etc are apparently no good for rain.

The Cups are going to get you in trouble on the street in rain.

20+ to list......
I was going to get some Advan A048s for mine, but the backs are 10" wide, and I want as much curb protection as possible from the tires, so I went wit Nitto's NT-01. Should be interesting to see how the setup looks when the car is done by the end of this week.

i have the bridgestone potenzas re01r's...they are a far superior tire compared to the goodyear gsd3s that i've always run. if you think there's a difference in performance from from the stock contis' to the goodyears...wait until you bolt on a set of the re01r's after running the goodyears!!! trust me!!! and they can be driven in the rain!

just my $.02 worth.

10" wide for the rear wheels, unfortunately, Advan A048 tires don't come in 275/35/18, so went with Nitto's. They are about $260 a piece.
