Impressive video? Heck no.
Keep in mind our strength is in the torque, so finding another car with 470hp and saying it compares to an E55K is just off.

Well, I'd like to know which other time I was "right". The E63 performance numbers confirm what I have written above. Oh well, there's always the W212?

gents,
these test are in Europe... no North American test have been officially published.
Let's not kill the E63 yet.. its way too early.
For example: Look at MT website right now, it has an M5 vs CLS55. The AMG is faster until it reaches 100.
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...s_pricing.html
The AMG had a higher latteral accel and it was only less than 1 mph in the 600' slalom.
If the E63 was used for this comparison, it would of won as well. Why? Becuase the M5 has the lousy N.A. LC unlike the Euro version.
It is obvious by looking at the pictures, it was hot and both ETA and trap speeds suffered. Those numbers are way off.
However if you look at the trap speed on that particular head to head test, the M5 had more difficult time coping with the weather than the AMG. I'm taking the driver error out of this one, since they actually mention all the 279 combinations of performance on the M5. They obviously researched the car.

I had over $5k in Dinan engine mods (no Dinan exhaust) on my Mcoupe and regret ever doing them.
And remember it's Dinan's warranty you get, not BMWs. So when there is a problem......be happy if you were never between BMW and Dinan about who is responsible for the claim.
Happened to me and has happened to many others.

Let's finish this thing once and for all. If there are any M5 drivers in SoCal up to the challange I would be more than happy to put this thing to rest once and for all. Three runs 1. 1/4 2. 60 to 130 3 standing 1/2 mile. All on video. No excuses. Seem fair?
M5's pull on the top end is far superior than E55.
As far as so called narrow band of torque. It only matters during dead stop launch. Once rolling, the story is different. M5 with SMG can stay in the power band easier than you do on the E55. Hence M5 can win against E55 from rolling start. But it takes a better driver in the M5 to max its potential. The E55 only requires you to step on the gas and go. No skills involved.
Personally, I don't think E63 will be faster than M5. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised that E63 will be slower than E55. I think DCX screwed up by taking E55's biggest advantage away and replaced with weaker E63. Taking away 50lb-ft of torque and raised the torque peak from 2600RPM to over 5200 RPM is a dumb move.
