POWERCHIP DIY Flash

I just got this update from POWERCHIP. Has anybody tried it?

It is still a very expensive ECU tune up, for the gains offered. It costs USD 1500 in America and USD 1900 in Australia. Yet another case of an Aussie company ripping off their own, but having different pricing in the face of serious competition!
They warranty the CHIP but not the engine, if it detonates due to running lean on the track.

The widely acclaimed success of Powerchip's Gold98 upgrade for the AMG E55 has now gone one step further. Powerchip's R&D Department has just rolled out Serial Programming (also known as 'flash tuning') for the E55.

This means that in order to upgrade these unique AMGs with Powerchip technology, a laptop simply needs to be plugged into the diagnostic port under the steering wheel.

With the upgrade dropping the acceleration times of the E55 to Ferrari 360-beating results (as well as removing the speed-limiter) this Powerchip Gold98 has been designed with genuine driving enthusiasts in mind.

The installation is performed with cords on loan from Powerchip, rather than having the ECU sent overnight. The difference goes from three days turn-around time to 10 minutes of programming, directly to the ECU. All that is needed is a laptop and access to the internet (Powerchip can supply a laptop on request.)

If you would like any more information on the upgrade, then please call your Mercedes-Benz Power Consultant on (03) 9681 6888.

Wow, if I understand this correctly, we can even tune our cars on a dyno using a laptop. Who would think a popular method used by many Imports tuners will evolve to the MB world??? Very nice indeed.

it's funny how they say it improves accelleration times making it a ferrari 360 beater.it already is faster, seems like they should know that if they have ever reviewed any road tests.

You are correct, sir. 360's don't stand a chance, I was going to say something and then I figured it was just general knowledge.

That is why I posted this news letter. It is dated AUGUST, so it is a brand new thing for them and has not been updated on the product list.

I didn't interpret it that way. I read it to mean you can now download the code to your laptop and flash the ECU yourself instead of sending the ECU to someone else to flash. I don't think they are providing any self-tuning capabilities. But that's just my opinion and I could be wrong.

Grumpy666,
If you are right, then what's the point for Powerchip in doing this? It's only 3 days downtime for the customer. If the 55 is your daily vehicle, then those vacation/sick days come in handy. Seriously, I rather have the ECU sent out and get it flashed the right way, rather than flashing it myself. I know there would be idiots out there trying to do this temselves and screw it all up then blame it all on Powerchip.

When somebody comes out with a program that is compared to the LS1edit or HPtuners for the Mercedes, then it will get interesting!

Only kink in this is that some ECU's need to be soldered in order to be flashed.

My 03 does for sure. Cor from Klee did it right in front of me.

He made it look easy, but I would butcher it for sure.

Make sure you double check before going through all the time.
