What do you guys think of geting the wifey a G500? I am planning on a 997 GT3 for the fall, so I thought I'd slap a little something her way before I tell her that the kids college fund is all gone?

I can dish out some advice to you for once! I bought my live-in girlfriend one in April. Its a 2002 (first yr Merc officially imported them)with 25,000. She loves it. Its black on black (the only combo for a G) and is easy to park as its slim and fairly short. I like borrowing it too, as its such an experience to drive. Sure it crashes over bumps and creaks a little but it's all part of the charm. It's an SUV that isn't pretending to be something its not (ie Chevy Tahoe H2) and makes a great second car.
Built like a tank, looks like one too. Go for it J!

Yup, mine is loaded up on them, including the AMG. $20k more. Not a bad price, but i dunno if I really want it. i actually plan to replace the Jeep with it and go offroad.

If you plan on taking it wheelin' then I say go for it (and then post pictures)!! Those things are indestructable!! But for daily driving I couldn't think of a worse vehicle, too big and clucky for my tastes.

Yeah, the SWB is more intriguing to me for offroad prowess. i'm pretty extreme. The jeep is only a year old and all the paint is gone. I need something that can handle the terrain.

Problem with the SWB is that I can get a new G500 for the price of a used SWB with about 50K miles on it.

The reason I don't want the G55 is that I just don't like SUV racers. I want a truck to go offroad and I already have a 55k, and i'm sure the 997 will get complete mods.

Come on Jangy ... you want the wifey to be able to drive defensively. That means mashing the 55 supercharged moter to avoid some ********.

Forget about G-wagen it out dated...I had 2 of them...

It like riding a brick compared other modern 4x4...Not comfotable...cant tae a corner but very capable off-road, once it went even further the H1...

Those things would roll too easily if they were soft.

I thought that it was discontinued. 06 is 05 carried over.

I'm not sure I could stomach 12 MPG at this time. I've heard that the replacement will have a Turbo Diesel with scads a power.

But if you've got money to burn.......by all means spend it.
