You guys are looking at this all wrong.....this is an opportunity to upgrade!
The new family situation is forcing you into the only choice I see possible....a brand-new E55 wagon.![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
This allows you to keep the sweet wheels and awesome steering wheel too!

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
I've got 2 kids who are now grown and have never had a car larger than an E Class Mercedes. I have my 4th E now. We routinely went on trips and only recently have taken 2 cars on the family trip (for convenience not that we needed the space).
My wife always liked to be able to reach the kids easily in the back seat rather than having to crawl into the back with them. As far as safety, you will not find the SUV to be safer than any of the MB products. If you look at the deaths and serious injury per 100,000 miles the E Class is always at the top.
Sell the E55 if you have the itch to buy something else if you must but you don't need to. You'll be sorry.

I can see if you had a couple of kids. There's probably as much room in your 55 as there is in many SUV's. Especially with a newborn - they're not their big LOL. You'll also be able to fit all the baby crap in the trunk. My sister in law has twins and has a Caddy STS. As soon as she got pregnant, right away she had to have the biggest, most expensive SUV she could find (but that's just the way she is). She still has the Caddy 3 years later and has no problems transporting the kids and their stuff.
congrats again!
congrats again!
Me too! I specifically went out and BOUGHT my E55 because a baby was on the way!!!!

Afterall, it is a 4 door, and already has built in child seat hardware, right?? Also, with all of the airbags, it is extra safe. And as an added bonus, the 500hp will allow me to get out of trouble, if I find myself in a tight spot. Seems like we are all convinced..........
The only question is, will the WIFE buy it? (LOL)

HAHA! Now this is entertainment at its finest! You all are a real fun group, and I love the support! As well, I want to thank you for the kind words regarding my upcoming fatherhood...it is quite touching.
The fact is that my wife loves the Beast, and does not want me to sell it unless I am satisfied with its replacement. She likes the ML63, and has even shown interest in the E55/63 wagon!! Thus, as "ChicagoX" pointed out, this may be an opportunity to get a new ride!!

There is no real NEED to change cars, especially for only one child. I have 2kids and both can ride in the back of my C55. There is even more space in the E55, and the trunk in the E is even bigger than the C.

Some facts for you to consider :
1. The safest vehicles on the road are large sedans and minivans. There was a study on vehicle deaths and the E class came out as one of THE safest vehicles period.
2. Most "cute" SUVs have LESS cargo room than an E55 and most SUVs period have less room than an E55 wagon. IMO a wagon is the safest most efficient way to move around a family of 5 or less. If you need more passengers, get a minivan. A BMW X5 has less cargo room than a C class wagon, let alone an E class.
SUV stands for Suddenly Upsidedown Vehicle. And the faster it is, the faster you will be upside down. I never understood people who want to be upside down faster.

My son absolutely loved riding in the P-car. It wasn't until my daughter was born did I decide to get rid of it...well, it took me a year after she was born to finally let it go. Once I got the beast, it rarely got driven, plus, it was more or less in storage for the entire winter.

This is funny but when my wife was pregnant with our 4 month old, I took her to the dealership and told her I needed an E55 since we were having a child. I was coming out of an S2000 so she took the bait

Here are the details on the BEAST:
2004 E55
OPTIONS include:
Keyless Go
Navigation System
Auto Trunk Open/Close system
Factory 6CD Changer
Heated Seats
Sunroof
Exterior Color: Black
Interior Color: Black
Wood: Bird-Eye Maple (Black)
WHEELS: 20" 542r (HRE's) (Black and with Chrome lip).
TIRES: Conti Sportcontact2 (245/35 ft and 275/30 rear).
Awesome Wood/Leather Steering Wheel (It cost me $1,300).
AMG Pedals
K&N Air Filters
Bird-Eye Maple Wood color Center Console cover
WARRANTY GOOD UNTIL February 2009/100,000 miles.
Car is lowered about 1" via Star Diagnostics.
NOTE: Pics were taken prior to it being lowered, so it looks EVEN better now. Also, I removed the wing as I was planning on buying the wing that is on the current E63. Looks better IMHO.
