Final jangy needs rims

I am leaning hard on the five spokes, kinda looking like VRUS' iForged. HRE has a set like those, as do some others. I am also looking at the Kinesis.
Anyone know weights, etc. I reallylike the HRE C22s and am getting quoted just over $4k for a set of 18X9 and 18X10. Does anyone know for sure what their weght requirements are? Do they have enough to hold up to the BEAST??

CCW is the way to go. Ultra strong, good style, custom fit, and far less $$$ than HRE. Finally they are not as "played out as HRE." I like being a bit different and everyone between here and new york seems to has a set of HRE's on his/her benz, bmw, p-car etc.

I think $2200 for a set of 19's so likely less for a set of 18's. They will get the off-sets exactly correct and give you one hell of a ride.

If your looking at 18's than I get that you are looking for nice looking wheels but still want some cushion for ride quality. I would do 19's, there are many companies jumping in on the forged wheel bandwagon. (MHT, Lexani-asanti, GFG-giovanna, the MHT has nice wheels for the money. I just ordered DCR for the e350 but thought of DPE also but price is still up there for wheels but I figure I will get another benz once the lease is up and reuse the wheels for my future benz too. Look up MHT.

He is doing 18's for weight reduction reasons and the fact that a 19 inch wheel is more skittish at its break away point in terms of handling. Bigger wheels make for quicker turn in but they also cause for very nervous dynamics at the limit. Also the small side wall makes for a very odd steering feel where old cars with 15 inch wheels in the 80's and tons of feel as to what the front wheels were really doing etc.

Looks vs performance and Jangy is going for performance.

Saying HRE is played out is kinda like saying Leather seats in a Mercedes is played out. Its just what goes, and its just quality. Leather, HRE and Mercedes and one very nice combo!

And yes of course the HRE Competition series are able to support the weight of the E55. I have sold many Comps for the W211.

That well may be the case but I personally dont like the style all that much and feel they are just to busy (in most cases).

I think a CCW wheel is more rare, cost far less, and is stronger (less prone to denting).

If I could pick a set of wheels for my car it would not be that popular of a wheel but it would be light and heck I like it. I just like RENNtech monolite wheels for some odd reason.

So cost no object, RENNtech wheels for me
Cost dependent, go for CCW.

I enjoy being a bit different than the rest.

I actually love the Renntech monolites as well, they are a great looking, lightweight and strong.

Of course wheels are all a personal preference, so there is really no right or wrong answer. I like to be different also and I have yet to pull up to a Viper with exact HREs as mine, so i still find them rare. If you go with anything but the 547R its rare, the 547R is the HRE's you see on 90% of Mercedes.

Thanks for the replies guys. yes, i am leaning on the 18s for performance. i want these rims for track use as well, so they need to perform.

I also like a but of difference, and did look at the RENNTech. Problem is I can't get them in a 18X10. I'm still checking so we'll see.

Thanks for the verification that the C22 can work on the W211, 2K6E55 had mentioned something about one of them not being rated for the weight, so I wondered.

CCW, hmmm I'll look. I'll also check out MHT.

Another consideration is Kinesis. Any feedback?

I agree with Cyncarvin32 that you should take a good look at the CCW lineup. I've owned a set of John's wheels for 5 years now and he does a really nice job- you can spec the size, width, backspacing, and finish to your wants and needs. John's workshop is based out of Daytona, Florida.

In fact, I've already decided on the CCW SP500 for my E55.

Cheers,

Jangy,

The wheels that are in my sig pic are the CCW SP500 in 19x9 and 19x10. My car was the first MB to have them in that size and style. The fitment is perfect. I was running 255 & 295 tires.

I sold my wheels to DSC on the board. He loves them also... They are just a pain to keep clean. Since they are not clear coated, you really have to keep up with cleaning them. I am now running a set of Brabus Style VI with black centers until I decide what permanent wheels I want... I am leaning towards the HRE C22 with polished lip and black centers.

I want something that is super light, strong, and has black centers so that's what I leaning towards.

Here is a link to a thread with alot of high res pics: https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...&highlight=ccw

Just get some damn wheels already. What is this?? post number 1,897,545 in the Jangy evolution chart in the search for the perfect wheel?

J/K actually I like all your choices but you know where I am at with wheels. I am sure the 18 inch C22's will weigh around 18lbs each as my 19's weigh 20lbs. You could always get a different wheel and feel that you avoided the so-called "played out" wheel but if they are played out why are people continuing to get them. A wheel that is played out generally dissappears from the market sort of like an SSR GT3 wheel which had its 15 minutes of fame in 2001 with the new E46 M3.

Jangy,

I was told that the 19" C22s do not meet weight requirement for the E55. Get the Renntech monolite!

Jeff,

Just checked with HRE and they have approved the C22's on a E55 no problem... Also Tommy has your stock wheels and tires.

jangy, go the baller route and create your own rim company and create your own rims

There is a company that I think is part of Champion Porsche and they build custom rims for guys. I know the M5 guys had a set of rims made. One piece incredibly light weight and super strong.

Ah found it, the company name is called RAC and they make rims called the Monolites and then it's further broken down by model number. I can try to get in touch with them if we can get 10 folks or so down to get wheels.

Example wheel:

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/sho...&highlight=RAC
That's the thread for the wheels on M5board.
Apparently it's 3500$ for their set of 20's.

I am running the same setup as VRUS did with the CCW's. Their service is outstanding, which carries a lot of weight with me. Plus, they are manufactured only a 1/2 hour drive from me. As Victor said, they are a pain in the *** to keep the highly polished look. The small spokes really show the monster brake calipers, which draw compliments from those "in the know".

Any rubbing with the 295? i am also wanting tens in the rear (maybe 10.5). What offset in the rear? Last thing, does waxing help to keep the maintenance down? That look is what I'm after, just probably with a flat darker color. CCW, huh? I thought they were iForged.

VIC55...funny thing is I've spent over $2K in "testing" alone to get the right offset, etc. Just want to make sure I have final specs set BEFORE i turn it over to a wheel company

I know I want 18X9 and 18X10 and that I want to run the 275 (front) and 295 (rear). BUT, I don't want any rubbing, even when she is dumped. And it dumps pretty low (thanks to Creative). I need to get a final decision on offset and I'll move. Then it is just getting nice quality and low weight.

Am I right thinking the forged rim (saves about 10lbs) and the rotors (another 10) will show me significant changes in unsprung feel?
