Steering wheels??
https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/90209-aftermarket-steering-wheel.html
regarding steering wheels:
1st one is the MP design. It's available from Autowerks. The best one in my opinion since you get the most wood and the perforated leather. Good price.
2nd is the AMG F1 steering. It's nice, but there's no wood and it appears a little less thick than the Autowerks one. Not sure of the price, but I also haven't seen anyone with it except a guy from the messageboard Rennteam. This picture is of his steering wheel. Some places have said they can get this steering wheel, but I haven't seen that happen just yet.
3rd is the Kleemann. It has the same shape as the Autowerks one except that there is less wood. Not sure of the price, but I think it may be more than the Autowerks one.

MP Design wheel is definitely the value leader. Is it only available with perforated leather and the burl matte or glossy laurel woods ? Or can it be custom ordered with Alcantara or piano black lacquer wood ?
One of our sponsors has given me a quote for a custom Brabus wheel with Alcantara and black piano black lacquer wood. It is very expensive but does have the chrome paddle shifters -- I'm not aware of any other aftermarket wheels that have these, at least yet.
I'm still waiting to hear if the new AMG 63 steering wheel is compatible with the 55, or even better if the paddle shifters can be obtained separately to replace the buttons.

Here is a link to a thread about steering wheel installation.

I had difficulty getting the plugs (yellow and green) to the airbags loose without breaking the clips. I pryed them and broke the clips but it didn't hurt them. Apparently most are able to remove them with their fingers.
You will need a set of Torx drivers to remove the horn switch/ Airbag off of the wheel. PM me if you have problems. It should take about 15 minutes to do the job if you're doing it right.
Airbags inadvertently going off is a non issue. Make sure the ignition is off and it can't happen.
You'll love the difference. Like my wife says "thicker is better".

Hey Neal: Is that mine?????

Anxiously awaiting new steering wheel..
I just found that pic on my hard drive from a while ago, but in a way, it is yours since its idenitical to that one!

You guys will love that wheel.. My buddy John has it in his car and after a few seconds of using it I just had to have one...
So, Neal, you can pay the commission for the sale to my buddy John.

See my post below on my Brabus piece for another steering wheel idea.

Lets get ten people commited and i'll get us the best deal on the wheel that we want. I guess the model, etc is open again since we didn't go with this one. Please be specific on who is "interested" and who is ready to BUY. If you have questions or preferences, post or PM me and I'll get them cleared up, but I only want to put in the time if you are serious to get the price down.
EDIT: By the way, i was quoted just under $1500 retail for the Kleeman, so we may can get that one at the same price if we get enough people?? Just a thought. i am not so picky. i mainly want a thicker wheel. I am leaning toward the MP, snce i like the looks and it is the "cheapest".
