That's because the ECU retards the timing on upshifts for tranny longevity. The E55 would light the tires on the 1-2 upshift if it wasn't for the ECU telling the engine to settle down for the split second it takes the tranny to shift gears. Not to mention, the shifts are much smoother in the E55 than the M5.
