break in ? and tips on restraint

Hello:

Picking up my e63 in the Am tomorrow. Opinions please regarding strictly adhereing to 1000 mile break-in period, keeping RPM under 4000.

Let me say first, I will not be beating the snot out of this car, but 4000Rpm sounds a bit overly conservative. To follow it to the "T", I will be mustering restraint I did not have 5 years ago. Sidebar: Last go-fast car I bought new, '02 911, I believe I banged it off the rev-limiter leaving the dealer's lot. That will not happen tomorrow!!!

I am thinking if I keep it off the carpet and away from the rev-limiter and I should be okay No ??

TIA,
DW

The engine is already broken in.
The rest of the car isn't.

Don't baby it, don't rape it. Take it easy but exercise the car through the RPMs. That sounds like the most rational advice mixing in all schools of thought.

I am a firm believer in drive it like you stole it. Slam that throttle on and smoke those puppies in the dealers parking lot and give all the employees and customers something to get excited about. Well thats what I did with the CLS55 anyways, but seriously dont baby it. AMG breaks the motor in for us anyways along with the drivetrain.

I would baby it for the first few hundred miles. Let those piston rings settle into place.

Then romp on her.

when i got mine and asked the dealer about the run-in period, he said i didnt need to run it in! I took it sort of easy for almost 1000km's... its hard to do when you got a new toy with so much grunt!!!!

Some high heat cycles are needed on the p/rings to settle but mostly these been bench run anyway .. the 1000 mile thing is incase there is something lose in the tranny or a wheel comes off...

Its a liability limiting measure.
