P.s I'm with Victor, I bet the car should get more milage, it also might be not as responsive and only learns what you want from it.

Give it a second chance.
......you keep quotig numbers from magazines that so far are nt replicated in real life. No, I dn't think G55 is generally faster than an E63.......my point is that based on Dereks numbers my G5 is faster. I have done a 12.9 i the 1/4 mile with my G55. Dereks best time was 13.0. I think something is wrong somewhere. There is a big difference between the numbers you are quoting from magazines and the only real world number we have so far from Derek.

I can assure you that Derek is neither messing with us nor laughing his butt off or pissed because of the results. He's shown before that in the interest of separating fact from fiction he's willing to take one for the team and report the unembellished results. He did it with the M5 and now the E63. IIRC, he didn't make out badly on the resale of the M5, no reason to expect a different outcome with the E63.

That said, I agree I'd like to see some atmospheric data from the track. Likewise, a dyno pull and some more 1/4 miles with 2K on the odo would be revealing. It will be interesting to see additional quarter mile data from others to see if this was a fluke or the E63 norm.

Lest we forget, your G55 is hardly stock. No devil's advocate here, just a small clarification.

Derek's car is weak

Derek broke his car in like a wuss. If anybody knows anything about AMG cars, you need to break them in like you stole them. No wonder Derek's car was so slow. He babied it the whole 18 hours he owned it.

Seriously, though, given Derek's results, I am less concerned about the e.t. than the MPH for this car. 108 is very low. This can't be the "real" 1/4 performance of a fairly broken-in E63 (1,500 miles). If it is, then AMG really took a step back speed-wise. Most of us E55 owners would sacrifice a bit of straightline speed for improved handling dynamics and road feel, but not 3/4's of a second and 8 mph in the 1/4. That is way too much to expect. As more owners hit the strip, we will get a fair representation. And if Derek's results are typical, I am never letting my E55 go.

It means that he agrees.

As far as Derek's runs, 1 car does not make an entire line. There are a million reasons why Derek's car may have run slow last night. Here is the weather from Gainesville, FL last night - Gainesville weather from Sept 6th

I wonder if the car has a different fuel and timing map that it uses until a certain number of miles. The new m5 has something similar to that. Just speculating, that et and mph is way off for the weight and horsepower of the car. Unless the flywheel numbers are way overrated which i doubt.

Derek please post your slip so we can see your 1/8 mile mph.

I'm not doubting your post, but do you have any proof that the E60M5 has a different fuel/timing configuration for the first X miles?

Did he do a reset?

Maybe since he babied the car he should have done a reset (put key, turn ignition, hold pedal etc...)

For Florida, don't think it gets much better than that.

81F at 7:53pm. Yeah, swampy humid (72%), but when isn't it in FL.

Think I am okay with this now. After a long night of drinking and wandering the streets at 3AM mumbling and picking fights over this (okay actually watched King Of Queens and ate Lays with the wife) ...I have come to terms with the fact that it's a mid 12 sec car tops, WHICH IS GOOD, but basically identical to the new M5.

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
Now you all know why Kenny Bernstein and John Force don't have NA motors. Blowers rule.

Guys we need to mellow out a bit. Let Derek come clean with details. We all know that the difference between the E55 and E63 aren't going to be as dramatic as the E63 or E55 crowd want to claim. I say Loren gets an extra cookie for setting up a truly controlled study to resolve these findings.

Hey Loren....get copyrights to all photos and videos at the track meet. They will be priceless!!

..............understood. Mine is definitely not stock. However a stock G55 does 1/4 mile in 13.2 secs @104mph. Not much different from Derek's result with the E63. Remember, that Derek posted his best time, so there were runs that were much worse. Having said that, I don't really think that Derek's result is the final word on this. The G55 reference is a side issue. Lets forget about it. Like others have said, after a proper brake-in, the E63 will likely post better times, but it looks like it is going to be in the high 12's.

no problem ricky, it's a valid question

This was explained to me by active autowerks. Another thing that I have seen is that the e60 requires several back to back runs on the dyno before it shows it's max power.

Whether or not the map information is 100% accurate i don't know, but they were the first company in the states programming the e60 ecu so i believe them.

I trust AA, they also have the most reliable s/c for the M3 I think as well...? (Yeah question mark because I'm not 100% sure).

Back to back dynos eh? On the E55 that'd result in heatsoak. I wonder how the E63 fares.

Derek: Something is wrong.

I have driven four different 63s and they are close to 55s in performance.

Definitely less TQ, but HP is there.

Can you throw it on the Dynojet?
