Back to back dynos eh? On the E55 that'd result in heatsoak. I wonder how the E63 fares.

I don't know about the heat soak. I've run my E55 3-4 times in a row in the 1/4 mile with no heat soak issues. All low 12 second passes and the only time between runs was the time it took me to pick up my timeslip and stage again (private track day). I think outside temps were in the 75deg range.

Derek had referred in his initial post "never raced, broken-in in the most gentle way possible."

That alone would have me assuming that he is joking about his experience last night. The weather may not have been optimal but to be down 7-10MPH from that of the stock E55's seems to be quite excessive considering some of the input from current E/CLS 63 owners.

Perhaps he did some easy runs short-shifting through the gears? I have raced numerous cars ranging from 7-second 185MPH tube-chassis BB car down to 9-second normally aspirated SB and there are many ways to manilpulate E.T. as well as MPH.

Until Derek post his timeslip with all the data such as 330,660 and 1000-feet, we all will just keep on speculating.

I have seen this with some stock e55 but the minute you add a pulley things definitely change as far as heat soak. If i hot-lap my car it will go from 11.5--11.6 to 11.7-11.9 and lose three mph.

I truly wish it were all a joke. My sarcasm is a weak attempt at masking the pain. Car is WELL under 1,000 miles. While the E55 is really easy to drag, the E63 is even easier. The first run I forgot to start in 1st gear and the downshift cost a bit. One other time, a 13.5 I believe, I ran it in manual and bounced off the rev limiter.

The weather wasn't much different than two years ago, September of 04, when I ran 12.5-12.6 with a new E55 that was under 1,000 miles.

Track prep was fine with wheel spin only happening once. I NEVER felt ESP intrude on the power delivery. It just ran really slow. I also can't imagine AMG dialing it down so much and hope that mine is quite the anomoly.

As for the dyno, I don't want to put any more miles on it. Going to try a M6 or S600. Any recs?

Thanks for the support and I wish I had better news. I pray my car is a mistake. It could be the AMG gods getting me back for putting laughing gas on their work of art.

Damn ...Wait and see how she runs after 3000 miles are on the clock (if you decide to keep her). M6's are very fast with trap speeds around 122 mph! What about a 997 Twin Turbo?

Ouch

Sorry to hear that this isn't joke ...

Derek why not a new 997 turbo? While the M6 is a beast ... I still can't get over how incredibly ugly they seem to me.

I think perhaps with the toys that you already have ... maybe its IS time for you to start playing with the TT V12's from mercedes. There is going to be a black series SL coming out. ( we most likely can't get it but you might be able to get parts ...)

Best of luck!

after previously watching u break the 11 secs barrier for 1/4 mile in ur E55, it's just heartbreaking to see u run the 1/4 mile in the E63.

I think me means the break in procedure found in the E60 M5's owner's manual. They suggest against using the S5 and P500 modes for the SMG programmable through iDrive and the S6 mode is actually locked out until the 1,200 miles mark (I think).

2003 E55 AMG
Derek,

I was really hoping this was a joke... It could still be that the motor is too tight and needs to loosen up a bit.. Hopefully someone else with an E63 can do some timed runs after the 2,000mile mark.

As for the car, get an S600.. I am looking to pickup an SL600 right now so we can both work on making those motors faster.. I am already researching some GT35R turbos to replace those tiny sea shells on that thing.

CL600 - put it on a diet, jack up that boost - mbe some bigger blowers & some proper 335's rubber ... yummy.

Sheez I am a little shocked at the E63 though ... dayam ... sorry to hear this. A dyno may well be in order if the upcoming big meet Loren is organising spells something different.

I actually think there might be load limiter on this thing before run in milage is complete ... dunno what else to think really. Other E63 owners anyone past run in milage ?

A C32 with an ECU and a pulley if way quicker too.

The car MUST be broken in some way and I to say go strap it to a dyno. If it is NOT working correctly you have a much better chance of getting your money back from MB than you do in the used car market. That car is worth very little given that big dealerships have 3-4 of them sitting around already and used ones will be worht 5k less I bet.

Dyno the car just for the sake of it... for the sake of helping out potential buyers of the 63 motor line. We really do need to know what is going on here.

The Jerry Lewis telethon was LAST weekend. I think I've shown that I'm more than willing to step up to the plate for the team. What have you done?

If I keep it, of course I'll dyno it. But it doesn't look like I'm going to keep a car that may have a hard time outrunning an M3.

i agree . much better leverage with MB if the dyno shows there's something wrong.

Not sure what the deal is with your car, but I've driven a new E63 and would rip my M3 a new a-hole.

OUCH!! Derek - I truly thought this was a Joke-sorry man!!

I've followed you're ventures with the E55 for the better part of a year and you have been the guide for my own doing's - right down to using Chris @C2Designs!! - This has got to be a disappointment........and while we can only talk about it ..................I wish you the best in making whole this particular venture. - Been there done that with a 13 flat car and it's just not "got the *****" when we're used to our E's that run in the 11's.
Have had an SRT8 S/Charged project myself that I let go of and went back to our tried and true Tq monsters and then went with K2 and now I'm in the E for the long haul. Wish you the best man!!
