Hmm I don't get it:
E550
5.5L motor 383hp 391ftlbs TQ
1/4 mile = mid to low 13's at 104-108mph
E63 120 more hp 6.3L motor 1/4 mile =low 13's @103MPH?
Somethings not right for sure.Sounds like a possible elctronic or mechanical issue or something.

Hi Guys,
I have not posted for many years and have been waiting for some confirmation of what I experienced. I had my E63 order for a long time and I thought it was going to be the perfect car for me. I have owned two E55's, a 2001 and a 2004 which I sold in the spring. Both cars were great, with the 2004 being a huge improvement over the 2001. I received the first E63 at my dealership about a month. My E63 was in many ways a huge improvement over the E55. One of my favorite things about the E63 is that I could get a light colored interior. My wife and I went to pick up the car and it was really stunning. And then we went a ride....... The car was a huge disappointment. I can tell you without a doubt that the E63 is not faster then a normal running E55. Having drag raced for many years I cannot see that car running under 12.75.
We ended up not taking the car and are searching for a nice E55, hopefully with mods. If anyone is selling, let me know

I picked up a left over '05 e55 earlier this year and I could not be happier, and I got an awesome deal. Why would anyone pay sticker for an e63, unless of course they just need to own the latest and newest thing out there. The smart money is waiting on the sidelines and seeing what the real deal is on the e63. All these e63s sitting for sale is not a good sign.

Definately try different launch techniques. When Spero first got his DRs, it took some coaching and different launch techniques before he got down in the 1.6x 60' range on his drag radials.
I think his best times came from an idle launch, flashing the converter with no stalling.

Could the gearing be that HORRIBLE? Derek was the car just geared for MPG or comfort? I have driven SLK55's and SLK350's and those cars just rip through the gears. If figured that 7g and 500 hp would be truely insane... insanely fast not insanely slow.

That was my exact though was I was out of a bike ride last night at 8 pm. If Dereks car is doing 13.01 how on earth is a E550 just as quick. This really shows that the car is either broken or really is a E550 with a body kit!

The E550 is NOT as quick as the 63 (but pretty quick none the less) .

Nail it from a dead stop and the E550 hits like Tyson in his prime. At full throttle, the rear-wheel-drive E550 treats with a melodious V8 bellow, firm, right-on-redline upshifts and great forward thrust. Zero to 60 mph is a 5.2-second sprint. Just over 8 seconds later the quarter-mile has been covered and the E550 is traveling at more than 104 mph.
So according to this test of the E550 it did the Q/M in more than 13.2 (probably 13.4-13.5 based on 5.2 + "just over 8 seconds") @ more than 104 which is certainly not 13 flat or close to 108+ mph trap's Derek's E63 did.

I did read that and saw the data but I have seen the 302 HP E500 7g run 13.5 before so I think a E550 will run around 13.1 very easily. When I get rid of my E500 I might be able to give a better verdict on that. (infact I have run a C32 stock against my E500 7g and the two cars are door to door fender to fender all the way through 3rd gear in the E500. At that point the C32 pulls half a car or so -- C32 is a 13.4 second car).
There is no way that a car making 382 hp traps at 104.2 while a car with 500+ traps at 108. A C55 traps at 107-108 and it has 2 fewer gears and only 360 hp.
Time will tell. I hope its Dereks car for the sake of AMG but that does not make his pill any easier to swallow.
He should really make and apt. to meet with his regional service rep. and see what MB has to say regarding the car. They might actually buy it back if you have scientific data showing the car is "sick."

I'd have it dynoed as he'd have a hard time explaining to the regional MB rep what his car with less than 1000 miles was doing at the drag races..if the dyno is way off he might possibly be able to ask for his money back as you indicated. Come on Derek we all want to know how much power your car is putting out. Maybe, just maybe the 7 speed can't even handle the power it's supposed to with the new 63 and MB reduced the 63's output for the time being???Nah, that'd be too weird even for MB...orrr would it....???

I wonder what the drivetrain loss on the E63 is. We assume it's the same as the 55. They could have geared it very differently because of old fuddy duddys who fart around in it on Sunday drives complained the 55k was too much to handle. Thus the smoother, more refined feel people are commenting about. It could just be a sedan with a big under-utilized engine now and not a race car anymore.

There aren't that many sitting around, most the local dealers here sold their first cars. Of course you have the few CA dealers who get 100 of everything.
No offense, E55s sat around for awhile also.
What did you think there is going to be a waiting list for the E63?

No offense, but obviously you weren't around back in '02 when the W211 E55 came out. I went to my dealer and it was at least a 1 year wait. If you called around you were lucky to get one for $10k over sticker. Granted, the demand subsided, but not until at least a year after it was released.

Locally though, getting an 03 E55 for MSRP after an initial 8 month period wasn't that hard.
The Z06, best bang for the buck sports car ever.....that explains the demand. To that car's credit though, plenty of people have bought them at MSRP (both for 06 and now 07).
The GT500......I have no idea why people are spending $15k+ over sticker for that car.

1. Did you use the automatic or manual shifting (or both) ?
2. Did you have the ESP on or off (or both)?
3. Any noticeable tire slip or ESP intervention?
4. If both were used, which resulted in best times?
