E55 vs. E63 Drag Race Video presented by Rob Allan

E55 is the in-car video on the left, E63 is on the right.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIaSzJyb08A

This drag race was either sponsored or filmed by Mercedes-Benz AMG North America and was shown to the AMG enthusiasts attending AMGFest 06' at MBUSA Headquarters in Montvale, NJ in August. It was presented to us by Rob Allan, Product Manager, Mercedes-Benz AMG North America.

Thank you to Mercedes-Benz, Rob Allan, and Pete (55fanatic) for a great AMGFest weekend.

on that race where the driver of the 55 did a burnout, the 63 WAS faster.. .but if you listen to what Rob Allen says is that the 55 does the 1/4 mile about .1 faster than the 63 on average.

He said E55 does 12.60, and we all know that is slow, most will run 12.30 to 12.40. Then he goes on to say the E63 does it "consistantly 12.8 or 9". That's an eternity of difference when going 110mph.

I would guess the E63 is extremely consistant non dependant on driver. The E55 with a more skilled driver who can get off the line correctly (without xs spinning....read DR) is going to go faster than usual, such as several forum members have done, running in the high 11's.

Although I have not gone to a track I know that my E55 will consistantly run better numbers than quoted by MB just by practicing launch. I can consistantly do 0-60 in under 4.3 and 60 ft at ~2.0 sec on the street with PS2s.

I think the potential is greater for the E55 but the point will be moot as soon as the turbos come. Will then see HP go out the roof, just like they did with the Supras and other ricers.

I find this video both hypocritical and comically ironic. If MB finds out that you had your car on a dragstrip, they won't cover failed systems under your warranty, yet they promote the cars by showing their performance on a dragstrip...F**KING HYPOCRITES!!!

Maybe slow under ideal conditions, but not everyone runs at sea level.

Last time I checked Supra Turbo are made in Japan, I would think that would qualify as a ricer. BTW I don't say it in a derogatory way I have owned 2 280Zs and a Turbo Supra, all of which were outstanding cars.

The beefed up 7 speed is in the works and will be available when the W212 is ready to launch. (According to info I have gleaned from different sources)

This is rediculous. Both cars were not driven by pros. The e55 looks like some stupid kid was driving it, especially by his behavior at the start of the video. The 55 was driven by some random event participant and the 63 was driven by some Benz Engineer. The 63 clearly got the holeshot. Funny, they did not swap drivers and video that run. That is because they want to sell new cars. Funny, even Rob quoted the e55 as being .1 to .2 second quicker...LOL.

I am glad for you guys that are buying the new 63s, but they are the new 210 e55s. They are turning out to be real pigs, but some of you just need to own the latest new stick. MBUSA doesnt want to admit they are going to put turbochargers in the e63 in a few years because they will not sell any N/A e63s now. When this info is released the values will tank on the N/A e63s.

Please do not shoot the messenger. I bought a left over 2005 e55 back in March. I could have waited for an e63, but the 55k is more mod-friendly and a much better value. People complaining about too much torque and hard to launch issues on the 55k are crazy. I do not live on the dragstrip and I do not care. The 55k will crush 99% of the cars out there still in a small street stand off.

Some of you on the fence should rethink your decision. Save yourself $25k and either keep your e55 or buy an '05-'06 e55 and wait for the blown e63s, or just save your $$ so you don't have $2500.00 a month car and insurance payments!

I believe before I started recording Rob said the driver of the E55 was infact a pro driver of some sort. Pete back me up here?

the driver of the E55 wasnt a pro driver... it was the creator of the AMG private lounge... what that proved there was that a pro driver in an E63 could barely beat a drag racing noob in an E55...

aaah I see, we have different views of what the meaning of rice is... gotcha

I dont think all cars from Japan are rice, I think crappily modded cars from japan are what qualify for the term rice...

all this proves is what we all know already. In a drag race with relatively equal cars all that really matters is the launch.

your AMG should be covered and on repeated occasions after speaking with certain MBUSA employees, if a dealership hassles you about warranty work for a failure under "hard driving" contact MBUSA consumer line... unless its something off the wall, your vehicle will get covered

the E63 I dont think would keep up with an E55+ good driver... even if the same level of driver was in the E63... The E55 is a qurtermile runner... the E63 is a full out 155+(yeah even though its limited) high speed highway runner, thats where it will walk a 55
