I was suprised how much I like it. I always go with black but this is what came in so I took it. It was a nice change of pace and I have really started to like it. It has the black birdseye maple instead of the burl walnut and I thought it was a mistake at first. The birdseye maple seems to have a similar sand like sheen (like the obsidian black exterior) that works...and it came with black AMG mats instead of tan which contrasts nicely.

Did you say it came w/ AMG mats? Those S.O.B.s, I didn't even get any AMG mats w/ my Cashmere interior. Has forced me to start searching for some. Think the black will still look good despite the burl walnut as the instrument cluster and center portion electronics are black. That suede shifter thing is interesting. They put wood there on the burl but suede on the birds eye maple. Weird.....
Love the combo though

I like the black wood and cashmere more than I thought I would (I'm ordering an E550 with that interior). I was concerned about too much contrast with the black wood (E550 sport + cashmere interior)...although this E63 pic shows a black instrument cluster and the E550 sport's aluminum might prove too distracting.
BUT....does anybody beside me think that it looks cheap to have the headlamp switch surround in black plastic rather than matching the rest of the cashmere dash?
I noted a new Swiss S600 pic elsewhere on the site and in that model at least MB cuts a hole in the cashmere to let the light switches poke through.
ps Go Horns!
