Driver side intake tube too small?

Has anyone ever seen this thread before?
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w211...ore-power.html

This person was saying that the E55 has a smaller driver side intake tube causing a MB restriction to the HP. They also mention cutting off the flaps in the intake to create more of a ram-air effect. Can anyone confirm if the CLS 500 has a larger pipe, so I can order one of those and install it.

Thanks, AJ

iirc, my air tube was replaced with one from an sl not the cls (ask deaguero) and you don't have to cut the inlet ports, the resrictive plastic front portion can be removed altogether.

AJ: go down to your dealer and order the SL55 left front snorkel/air intake tube. You will be blown away with the difference between the E55 snorkel and the SL55 snorkel. It fits pretty snug but you may want to seal it up too.
It only cost me $7 when I purchased it. May be more now but either way it's a bargain!!! Good Luck!

Just pull off your snorkles and compare them. Your passenger side should be unrestricted and fit on the driver side. Use that part number for your order.

ima55r2: are you sure you can use the right side snorkel from the E55 for the left side? I bought the SL55 for my previous 03' E55. This is the 1st time I have heard that you could use the right side. Please confirm! Thanks in advance!!!

My neighbor had a 2001 s430 and I first tried his on my car as the forum recommended part to get. It fit and it even had the same part number as my right side. It takes less than a minute to check...just try it. The connecting end shape is not an exact fit with any different snorkle anyway.

Also the heat wrapping of the snorkles and ram air effect is not going to make a difference on the sc. Air is being sucked in so fast the adjacent temps don't matter.

The right side one does fit, but the seals aren't great so you should seal it up.

I prefer to remove the flaps, instead of all the outer piece, since I want to make sure the air getting in is from outside the engine bay.

I thought the flaps were there to keep out excessive rain/water from entering the intake tubes at high speeds or something???

20+ to list......
Another thread about the snorkel mod, I've tried it on mine, didn't fit without trimming, in my opinion, that small section of "neck down" should not cost too much in hp. I just left my stock ones on but with ram air effect, so far so good, no problem what so ever.

I did the left-right swap as you recommended. It seems as though in my CLS55 the Pass side went into drivers side tight enough to seal properly. I could not get my finger in there anywhere. Ironically, my pass side part number is A-1130942182. I'm ordering mine today. Thanks all!

Is the part number for the CLS the same as the E55?

The # I listed was for my pass side CLS55. The number is printed on top, so you can look in your E55 to verify. According to other posts, other people with E's listed that same #.
