from German marketing material. is the hp/tq numbers quoted at wheel or crank (assume crank as the mkting typically goes)? seems our 55's w/ stage one at very least should walk the new rs6/m5, no?

Looks like the old model's numbers.

The new RS4 (which is N/A) makes 420bhp from a 4.2l V-8

The new S6 is a V-10, as well.

There is no NEW RS6, this car went out of production in 2004. The new S6, not RS6 is a 435hp V10 model.

About the only thread where I can offer (some) news!

The 2008 RS6 will run either a twin turbo version of the S6's 5.2 V10 (most likely) or possibly the forthcoming Lamborghini 5.6 V10 (though I don't know too much abut this). The word is that Lamborghini are wary of allowing Audi to use the high-output versions of their NA engine.

Either way, the guys I know at quattro gmbh say it will be turning out at least 550bhp (though if it is more, it will be close to 550bhp).

The whole car is a totally different animal to the S6- a far more focused car. The latest RS4 has proved that Audi has really perfected its handling after the slightly stodgy 03 RS6.

I intend to order as soon as the chance becomes available as I am a big fan of an AWD set up. However, I would prefer the TT-engine due to strong low-down power and opportunity to chip once it is out of warranty.

As a rule, they won't touch it unfortunately. However, if you have a relationship with a particular dealer there are ways around this.

If your planning on the 2007 RS4 there isn't a great deal of engine mods that will make a significant difference unlike with the 2.7t. Unless you added a supercharger of course.

The Revo chips for the turbo'd cars can be removed when it goes in for service and even if you leave it dealers just don't notice. I have a friend with a modded RS6 in Arizona and B5 RS4 in the UK and they've never had any problems.

Hope this helps a little, sorry I'm not much of a modder myself.

BTW, as an all-round package the RS4 is hard to beat and much more focused than my S4. Plus it looks stunning.

I get excited hearing the RS 6 may live again but then looking at their line up, it seems Audi's 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are too conservative for me. Both MB and BMW rape Audi cars (stock for stock) all day long when it comes to straight line performance, mostly due to AWD Quattro, Turbo lag and Audi being more conservative in general, they just don't do it for me in this regard. Then there's the price issue. Audi is usually more expensive than MB and BMW. On top of all this...there's the face lift of Audi which I have to admit, after seeing their cars in person, I like more now than I did when I first saw pics of them.

Just my 2 cents!

JLP,

"...from Germany." this was a cut/copy from marketing article, not my distinctive scroll/epiphany.

what what whaaat?

I was under the impression Audi had all but forsaken Twin Turbo setups on its performance models due to emissions issues, didnt' they do a press release about this a few years back when they transitioned from the 2.7L to the 4.2 in the S4's? If the RS6 really packs that kind of heat then I'm going to look into a trade-in. Imagine a 500AWHP daily driver sedan?? Daaaamn.
