Its basically the computer unit that controls the transmission. Yes I think that it is programmable.

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, GLE 400d, R107 280SL, Golf Polo
MKB do some fiddling here as part of their packages - also need to modify it to when you change rear diff ratio ... they do a 2.82 conversion.
