I'm not that doubtful, just not totally convinced. I would love to do a comparison if I had the means. I don't doubt that this particular comparison is valid.
I would like to see some more 1/4 mile times and trap speeds from the 63. If the car is faster it should trap at similar or faster speeds. I think the jury is still out. I love Mercedes and would have no qualms about buying a 63 when the time comes.
Its not that big of a deal to me and I believe overall that the 63 is a better package than the 55.![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Going back to the few E63's or CLS63 tested on US soil. They have not trap any higher or obtained a lower ETA. They are about the same. These test were from Derek, Fontana event and Florida CLS55 vs CLS63.
However in the CLS55 vs CLS63 rolling highway races, the car who got the jump stayed ahead. (too even to call a winner)
In this particular test "down under" the 63 proved to be what AMG designed and engineer and does show to be quicker. Maybe like the M5, the european models are faster than US cars.
Here in the US, the 63 have not proven to be faster all the time. So I think we can agree that they are about the same.
Here is the US, E63 is not CLEARLY FASTER than E55.
Having said that.. who cares! The E63 is better in other categories, which is a good thing. I'm going to wait 18mos to get one. I want Renntech, Evo and Kleeman to provide some Stage 1 and Stage 2 packages.
BTW: in regards to the M5 vs E63. 0 to 150mph.. my money is on the M5. As much as I hate to admit it. Rolling races, depending on the gearing and speed, but I would say the M5 as well. That SMG3 is gear perfectly for that engine. So far the 7sp has not proven to be that much of a benefit for the 63 engine (well atleast not in the US)

For South African spec cars at least. On Monday i will be running the m5 against my 55. I asked the dealer to make sure there demo be set to max power and best gear program to assist me to guage the difference between the 63 and m5 as i have tested both. I've run 2 m5's here and beat them both convincingly but i can't be sure that these drivers knew what they were doing. Knowing very well how the 63 ran against me i can make a call for myself between the 2. Could our 95oct fuel or the 0m sealevel conditions be affecting our cars positively?
nothings gonna give me more joy than to fu@k u up with your own car!!!

good videos! This whole e63 thing is just too confusing. Even AMG say that the 63 runs slower ET and traps, yet here we not only see a 63 marginally pull on a 55, it CONVINCINGLY walked away from it! How can this be for a car that is meant to be slower in a straight line?!
Somethings fishy! 63 sounds great tho! and damn it changes gears fast! Agree with 3rd gear being crap on the 55's, too long! you come out of the top of second and the revs drop too much for my liking...

on ideal conditions very few cars can out launch an e55.
but the 3rd gear is when the car feels to go dead.
re:63
it takes a bit to start going in first gear but once it gets into the power band it goes thr the gears very quick just like a bike.
beside the power the e63-it is a much more superior to the e55 in all aspects,
handling;braking;acceleration
i was a die hard fan and owner of a 55.
thats why we arranged for this test
if the 55 beat the 63 i was gonna buy another 55.
now i am convinced the 63 is far more superior to the 55.

Until we start seeing E63's doing consistent mid/low 12's in stock form.......there is no debate!

Remember the vid (f/accomplished 1/4mi guy) showing us the BEST the E63 could muster was 13.01? @ 109! Not even close to our E-55's consistent 12.4's @ 116

Better all-around car - E63
Stronger car on the street - E55
Most Fun to drive - PERSONAL Preference!

Hm...the video looks like the 63 does pull faster than 55 in stock form. If we take at face value that AMG 63 makes 507hp while 55 makes 469hp, it makes sense.
However, being that 55 is forced induced there's nothing a chip and pulley upgrade can't fix.![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Very true a chip and pulley will make the diiference initially but that top end pull of the 63 comes down to engine and gear dynamics which is going to be tough to beat. no heat problems as well, the 63 went max 85c in constant hard driving with no intercooler to worry about.

To think... some fools thought that racing two cars could tell which is faster!

Yeah, seriously. If you want to see which car is faster, head to head racing is meaningless. What you want to do is compare ET times from different tracks with different drivers and conditions.

jeramy classon for bbc drive times report:::
how, you might be wondering, does it stack up to the BMW M5? Well, they both cost about the same, they both have four doors, they are both limited to 155mph they could both top 200 if they weren’t, and they both offer roughly the same sort of space.
I’d say that even though the Mercedes has more power, the M5 is a more thrilling ride. It really does feel very special when you’re in Exit mode, being suicidal. But I hear horror stories about the BMW’s electrics, and to live with every day the more refined, more grown-up Mercedes — I can’t believe I’m saying this — is the better bet
Model Mercedes E 63 AMG
Engine type 6208cc, eight cylinders
Power 514bhp @ 6800rpm
Torque 464 lb ft @ 5200rpm
Transmission Seven-speed automatic
Fuel 19.8mpg (combined cycle)
CO² 341g/km
Acceleration 0-62mpg: 4.5sec
Top speed 155mph (limited)
Price £66,545
Rating
Verdict Perfect, until you run out of fuel

I know what you mean. What % of a cars life is spent on the strip???
All we gain is bragging rights that a 55 runs mid 12's, on the highways etc the 63's gonna be quicker.

I did not find it amazing at all ... The shift speeds were no quicker - although it was less clunky. I think they wasted the 7 gears and should have gone for a shorter final drive (who wants an overdrive ratio in these cars ?) and packed the ratios tighter 4-7th. 3rd to 4th is also quite a jump.

) ... I'll wait for the new W212 in '08 / '09.

Yeah ... luckily I have had zero issues with Blower shut down ... guess its thanks to mild UK weather or dunno what else...?
The brakes. That alone could be a reason to change ships. Especially with the SBC failing completely being reported ... heard some guy in SA in an "old shape" S-class had his SBC fail ... they took the car away before he could say "boo!" and gave him a brand new one ... well thats how the story goes anyway.
When I looked at the engine bay and the brake pump the system looked remakably similar and I imagine a swap out to the E63 version could be achieved - although not without some headaches.
Need to get those E63 mufflers on the E55 - it will sound deadly...

I've never had a shutdown on the super but i know that the car runs best around 80c engine temp and with the aircon on its hard to get it there. In the 90's i feel there's less hp as i get less wheelspin.
