63 vs 55 acceleration debate: more fuel for the fire

So I was watching the videos, reading the posts, etc and I was thinking. Could it be the reason the 63 is slower on the 1/4 mile be because the 7g has to shift 1 or 2 more times than the 5 spd? I am assuming the max gear you get to in the 55 cars is 3rd gear which means 2 shifts, the 7g would have to go to 4th gear (just assuming) which means at least 1 extra shift. I don't know the max. speeds in each gear for the 7g + 63 combo, maybe that would shed some light? Thoughts?
