Transmission Jerking

I dont know if this is normal or not. Lets say that I take off from a light hard on the throttle and come to an abrupt stop at the next light. Before slowing down the car still is in first gear. But when I get close to stopping the car it ABRUPTLY shifts into second causing the car to lunge forward right when I am stopping.

It has done it several times. Its kiind of unnerving. What do you all think?

E63 AMG
Noticed this also happening in my Cousins SLK 55, I think its normal. Happens more if your in S-Mode, when you stop accelerating car assumes it doesn't need 1st gear no more and shifts suddenly... Probably reason. Good luck

Re:

My C32 is like that too. I had it checked out many times and MB said they couldn't find anything. They changed my torque converter once. So i then took it to them again and they changed something in the suspension or something. Sorry, i'll have to check the workorder/receipt for more info. It was fine for a few days and still it jerks a little. Before the transmission was terrible. Every time i drive it jerks the hell out of the car. Sometimes when its cold out, when i reverse the car and place it in drive, the car is not moving at all...

I had my mechanic who actually works for MB take a look and he says that it looks like I might be getting a new transmission. He could hear some noises that isn't really right inside.

Also for all those that bought the E63 plan on taking it in for tranny work Eventendently the are some quailty issue with the tranny. Piston popping out of place. He saying that the E63 gearbox is the worst pc of garbage he has seen in the 15yrs he has worked for MB.

doesn't the e63 use the 7speed tranny that are offered throughout mb's line? if so, then all the newer models have the same problem as the e63's tranny?

First warning sign is that the car will not down shift. Second is the the car will not upshift. The car will hit the rev limiter if you do not watchout. They have also run into instances where the cars have been traveling down the road and completely jump into neutral.

Dealers have been told not to say anything to customers. Only service the tranny when a case of the above happens.

Same MB bullcrap!!!

holy crap. my car is new and when i had 200 miles on the car, accelerating out from a stop light, my car revved like it was in neutral but was still in drive. somehow it recovered and shifted to the next gear. next stop light, it acted kinda weird, not the same as the first incident, but this time it felt like it didn't know what gear to engage in. felt like it sputtered or something.

ah crap. does this mean i have this problem? i brought it to the dealer and they stated it didn't have any faults and told me to keep an eye on it.

so the question is, is there a fix for these type of problems?

Raise living HELL!!! Tell them you want it fix NOW!!!. Explain to them that you know that the tranny on the 07's is faulty. How many dealers are around your area? try going to a different dealer.

Easy test for the 7g is to coast from about 20mph. It will have a cluncky shift as it gets into first at about 5mph. If this happens, then you do not have the fix and a minimum of a valve body and software is in order.

mbamg06e55: what you are describing sounds normal. The AMG gearboxes hold the gear at high revs for a sec after you let go of the throttle. i like it, because it helps to keep the revs up when you are getting on it. That sounds like what you are getting. Basically, the tranny thinks you are being sporty, so it holds gear, then when it can tell you aren't it shifts up, even though you are decelerating. It is a matter of timing. Still get it checked as per the noise, but i would go dropping a new tranny in if it doesn't need it. The E55 trannys are very rugged and once that "seal" is broke, you never know.
