Over an '02 AMG, I would take the BMW.
If you can swing it (and I recommend selling a kidney if you can't) you should get the '03-up.
Look deep into your soul. Can you really resist the lure of forced induction.....?

price on 02 E55 black/black 46K 27+tax+extened warranty price on 03 M5 imola red/ two tone black/imola red 49K 39+tax+extended warranty i don't think i can get 03 E55 AMG for this price, maybe in few years... for some reason 03 M5 feels better, better options, hard to part with STAR though very hard !

M5 for sure...
manual, better handling and braking,
it looks better... and probably keeps their value better.
Unless the w210 was Kleemann or Renntech tuned, I would not touch it vs an M5 E39.

the m5 is a better car, there is more aftermarket support and it holds its value way better
put it to you this way, the old (e39) m5 beat the new (211) e55 and rs6 in at least a couple of comparison tests.
if you enjoy driving just a tiny bit, there is no comparison

To me this one is a no brainer - M5. If they didn't **** up the styling so bad on the E60 and got rid of iDrive I'd be in one right now. E39 M5 = sex.

I actually came over from an 02 E39 M5 Silverstone to my 06 E55. Both are great cars with their own attributes (good and bad), but to compare with an 02 E55 (W210) model, my personal opinion is the E39 M5 is a much sportier car with more power as a daily driver. However the W210 E55 might be more of a daily commuter, and if done up nicely can still be a classy ride.
But personally my opinion goes to M5 since I own one before, and it's just fun driving it every time I hop behind the wheel. However, being that it's a six speed manual, I kinda hated it when I hit the traffic at rush hours...shift, shift and shift....

If you comparing a non Kompressor W211 to the "old" M5 - I would say M5 hands down ... If its a W210 well even more so.
If only they kept more of the old M5 styling in the new one - I might be in a different camp today.

If your day to day needs allow you to enjoy a manual, without question, I would take the M5. Not even close.
As with any used car, be sure to examine carefully the car's history, check for damage, etc. When the M5 first came out, I saw many of them in body shops in the area. Too much car for many.

Go with the E39, much prettier car than the W210 and many people prefer them over the E60's.
