Tailpipes

Hi guys

Proud owner of 2004 E55 AMG.

Would like your advice. I would like to clean up the tailpipes, not being a practical person is there an easy way of removing them, and once off, what method would I use to get them back into good condition.

Regards

The best way to clean the pipes is to get some chrome cleaner. Removing the pipes requires too much work ie, welding.

Also a good scrubbing each car wash is also good, with a good quality car soap.

.............removing them seems pretty extreme. Someone asked about this in the detailing forum, you may wish to see what answers he/she got. I have had excellent results with Comet that you use for your pots and pans followed by metal polish.

Exhaust Cleaning

You can try some B&B steel wool pads that have some polish infused in them. OR just go to a hardware store and buy a bag of the FINEST steel wool pads they have, like #0000. Use those on the chrome tips and just keep rubbing. Oh, wear gloves! Also, you can get some #00 and #000 pads to do the pipes from the mufflers back. It wont make them look like chrome, but it will brighten them up a bit. It takes a little while lying on your back, but the results are worth it. One more thing, wear some eye protection down there! Little steel wool fuzz will go everywhere and you DON'T want that in your eyes!! Good Luck!

I would think Comet is too harsh and abrasive for the tips. I would go with Barkeepers Friend less abrasive. Same packaging just different label.
