first service/oil change question

I have an 06 E55.

So far, I've logged 10,000 miles, and the service light still hasn't come on yet, and the dealer says service/oil change is stil not due for another 6,000 miles. That means I have to hit 16,000 miles before I should change the oil. Now, I don't know about you guys, but 16,000 miles just seems like a very loooong time for the initial oil change. I got very uncomfortable hearing this bit of info, especially after the way I drive it (like I stole it). My 911 got it's oil change at 3,000 miles.

I was messing around with the service menu, and might have accidentally cleared the service lights (serv. B), and I told the tech that was working on the car. He says that there was no evidence of the clearing, so all is well. He also says he gets some W211 cars that come in for first service at 20,000 miles.

What is everyone averaging before they brought it in for initial service??
TIA

on my cars, i have always done a oil change at 1000 miles and another at 2000 miles when new. then i change it every 3-5000 miles after that even if it is synthetic. i always check the oil and if it's really dirty and smells "burnt" then i go ahead and change it. i drive my cars hard so 5k miles is my limit. i've always heard that the first (1k miles) oil change is very important, because as the engine is breaking in it is shedding small metal fragments from the bearings and other engine componets.
you can do a oil change yourself on the E55 for about $70 and a half hour so its not that big of a deal to do every 3-5k miles. plus the peice of mind it gives me.

I am reaching 1600 miles on my 06, plan to just do the oil service at a local independent Mercede shop instead of going back to dealer and have the service people joy ride the car.

Btw, did you buy an oil dip stick or something? I haven't checked mine yet but my friend came with just a cap but no oil dip stick.

I did mine at 2500 (oil change). I will do it every 5000 from there out.

I changed mine at 5000 then again at 15000. If you are worried about it then have it changed. With Mobil 1 there really is no need to change it every 5000 miles.

With the new fleece oil filters and Mobil 1 technology it really is ok to wait the 10-13,000 mile intervals the clusters say. Not that changing the oil early will harm anything, it's just not worth getting anxious when the mileage creeps up to 13k between services.

The ASSYST program on your car monitors how aggressive you drive, the mileage, and also has an oil condition sensor to calculate how often your oil needs to be changed.

That's just the problem. I've been driving it like I stole it, which would mean the service should be coming sooner rather than later.
