07 ML63; 05 E55 (sold)
Trade in time......advice please
Trading in the '05 E55 tomorrow for an '07 ML 63. The E is obsidian, and has 25 k mi. The car is in near showroom condition save for a few small stone chips. No accidents. Dealer first offered me 53k about 1-2 months ago...I said , then thought , then got , now I'm thinking
Keep in mind I will only have to pay sales tax on the difference between the price of the ML and the trade on the E, that adds about 3500.00 to the deal.
Is a net of 56500 reasonable for a pristine Florida E55??
Opinions please......

2006 SLK55 AMG
WOW... they are b$ing you. I went into the dealer to get my car traded in for a 2004 fully loaded E55... and they wanted to give me $53,000 for my 2006 SLK55... I'd say either you trade with me or you keep the E55. Don't get a ML =/

The $3500 is a sales tax credit for the e55. (6.5% x 53,000)
Eagleeye,
I saw your car at the Homestead AMG. What are you doing with your wheels?

you're not computing the sales tax correctly you only pay the .5% surtax on the first $5000. It would be $53,000 x .06 = $3180 + $25 (.005 x $5000) = $3205. Not a huge difference but every little bit counts. So you are essentially willing to sell you E55 for $56,205, and I would be surprised if you couldn't find a retail buyer who would give you more for it, which would outweigh the benefit of sales tax credit when trading.

In Today's market I think you would get $60K at the most. That is if you are lucky and find a buyer that really wants it. If it were me I would make the trade. I hate trying to sell a used vehicle, and for a fast sell, you won't get much more than what they are offering. Keep in mind that the same thing will likely happen with the ML a couple of years from now. Keep the 55.

Drove by a new ML63 yest. on the way to work, sharp looking car. But unless you really needed the little extra space that the ML provides, otherwise I also suggest to keep the 55 since a supercharged 4 door sedan is hard to find.
* on the other way before seeing the ML63 getting off ramp on the freeway saw a brand new M6, damn nice looking car too!

The ML doesn't offer any more space than the E. Sounds like he fancies a change while AWD will be a nice addition when trying to control 500bhp in one of those Florida thunderstorms.

they say low 50's is the wholesale trade-in, which seems to be true.
