I think, it's the first time that the E63 is been tested faster than an E55....

According to the article "The 6.2 negligibly outperforms the old car in every acceleration test, reaching 100 mph in 9.5 and 150 in 23.5 seconds; 0.2, and 0.5 seconds quicker. The 12.5-second quarter-mile time is identical between the two cars, but the 63 carries one extra mph through the lights"
Unfortunately, this is not enough to convince me 100% to buy an E63 wagon over an E55 wagon, at least not while the E55's are still new enough.
OTOH, I am tempted to pick up the E63 wagon to do Euro delivery with my little family after our next one is born. Unfortunately, I hear AMG doesn't do Euro delivery for US buyers.

weights of cars

1. e63 wagon 4390 lbs... c&d mag got 0-60 time of 4.0 sec....great

2. cls63 weighs 4210 lbs. 0-60 from passport g-timer on cls amg forum
3.90-3.9X times ......fantastic

3. e63 sedan weighs 4035lbs(MBUSA website)...0-60 time????????

I'll guess that some mag, g-timer, g-tech will record e63 sedan 0-60 times of at least 3.9 sec 0-60, maybe 3.8x sec. since it weighs 350 lbs less than the wagon.

I believe those times but rest assured that the die hard E55 guys will say that car mags are full of bs and that their times are not real or accurate.

So what I see is that they will always like their cars better which if fine. No skin off my nose.

I just like the high reving 6.2L engine and will get one in some form one day.

Should all be mildly improved in the 63 series. My car is so smooth and definately better on the twisties. I am not convinced it is "faster" than the 55, but it is a nicer overall ride IMO. I think the paddles really provide an edge as well. Plus the LSD..This wagon is a serious monster.

Thats awesome! Didnt the E55 wagon got also a better 0-60 times due to more traction or smth?

LSD is not available in the E series but I have it as part of the 030 package that is also available on the CLS 55. I was referring to what was different on my new car specifically in comparison to my 03 55k. Sorry for the

keep in mind that the wagos are always faster than the sedan. Better weight distribution to the rear.

therefore their E wagon and CLS63 numbers are very similar, with the advantage going to the wagon. Both American test so far have been by C&D.

The difference is so minimal, that it will up to the driver in most conditions.

by the way.. M5'/M6's hit 150 in about 21.xx seconds. Therefore to 0-150 the 63 engine with 7 speeds will be about 3 seconds behind. The E55 will be about 3.5xx seconds behind. That is a HUGE difference.

Further proof that AMG really did not provide aggressive gearing for the high end speed. Despite of that, I'm still getting a E63 next year or so.

side note:
From a roll, thanks to FISKE. We know that with a stage 1 car, the E55 can make up the difference against a stock M5 (90 to 160mph). Racing to 160mph takes committment on both drivers and were pushing their cars to win.

way to optimistic with your predictions.

Wagons are always faster than the sedan. Therefore add to these times despite the weights.

If you don't believe me, search Car and Driver for the E55 vs E55 wagon times.

Even 0-150 the wagon was faster than the Sedan.

Thanks for your reply. I checked Motor Trend road tests on the e55 vs e55 Wagonand 0-60 times were, 4.2 and 4.1, respectively. And so does C and D, according to you, which I believe you, but I just haven't checked it. These tests at MT were seperate tests, or not tested together. Were they at C and D, or tested together? Just thinking: different drivers, different weather conditions; etc could throw it off a few tenths of a second, either way-happens all the time.

I understand the proper placement of the extra weight in the wagon over the rear axle and a little behind it gets better tire grip, but it is still an extra 350 lbs. If the sedan gets a perfect launch next to a perfect launch of an e63 wagon, I find it hard to believe the lighter car will lose out to the heavier.

Not trying to be argumentative in the least, but the heavier beating out the the lighter is a bit "tough to swallow".

Is the general concensus here that wagons are faster than sedans(e55's and e63's)?

Thanks

The E55s are rumored to be faster as wagons. The thought is that the better weight distribution helps with traction. I dunno if the E63 will benefit from it, since it has the smooth tq band.

I drive a E55T, SLK55 and 65 Mustang Conv.
It's true. The E55T is a faster vehicle than the E55. There was a lot of teasing when they first did the comparissions that people are doing everything to save a pound or 2 in their Beast and what they should be doing is throwing a 50 pound bag of rice in the trunk

The launch is actually the key. The weight over the rear wheels actually keeps them down so you get a good launch. You have no idea how badly I wanted to take my wagon to the track and have a really good driver race it against a stock E55 and see what happens.
