Need New Factory Upgraded IC Pump

I have decided to replace the factory original IC pump on my '05 with one of the new "upgraded" factory IC pumps. I understand that MB went with an improved unit for the '06 cars and are using that unit to replace failed IC pumps in pre-'06 cars. I have had no problems with my IC pump yet, but don't want to wait - I'd rather do this as 'preventive maintenance.' I am guessing the factory upgrade is less than the Kleemann, EVO and Renntech kits which are around $3000-$3500. Even though I have no doubt those kits are worth every penny, I just don't drive my car too hard and think it would be 'overkill' for my purposes. I already have a 160* T-stat and the 10* fan setting. Here's the deal, I don't want to pay for this "upgrade" just to find out that the dealership pulled a pre-'06 NON-upgrade IC pump off the parts shelf and swapped me for what I already have. Can anyone out there sell me a NEW factory replacement IC pump to take to my dealership??? Reply on this thread or e-mail: paulcramm@hotmail.com or my cell: (913) 645-5925. Thanks all.

Don't bother! When I was at Renntech a few months ago they showed me the new IC pump is the same as the old one. NO upgrade even though thats what they want you to believe. I believe goalie_k is right. They use to put the IC pump in untested and they were bad from the start. Now I believe they are tested before they go on the car. If your intake temperature is OK and you are not feeling seat of the pants loss in HP then don't bother getting one. MB will replace the old one if it fails so why would you pay for one? If you want to be very sure you are not having a loss of power and you want to feel very reassured all the time then spend the money and get the Renntech IC pump. It won't increase your HP but it will definitely stop you from losing. Just my opinion. Good Luck.

New pump is the same as an old pump.

Bosch had a problem with pump motors shorting out their windings. New batch of pumps is OK.

BTW, Ford uses the same pump on Range Rovers and SVT SC cars.

Thanks!

That's why I love this forum! You get the information you NEED even if it isn't necessarily the information you were hoping for. I will probably wait 'til after the holidays and year end finances settle down and just pull the trigger on the new RennTech kit. You will hear from me soon, Adam!!!!
