E55 Acceleration Problems
E55 Acceleration Problems
Hi all, I have a 2005 with 41K on the odometer. It has been sitting at my buddies house for 3 months since I got the CL65 . Picked it up Saturday to clean it up, I'd like to sell it. Anyway, I had it in to the dealer back in August because it felt a little weak, and was making what sounded like early detonation sound (ticking/crackling) on acceleration. Anyway, it is worse now, it runs fair for about a half hour, then if you tip down to second at about 50, it should normally whip your head back in the seat, but it does not. I get all the sound, and none of the thrust. Has anyone had this issue? It almost feels like the SC is not engaging if that is possible. Your assistance is appreciated. I am bringing it to the dealer next week and any info you may have would be helpful.
Thanks,
Dave

SC Clutch or IC Pump
Sounds like either the SC Clutch or the IC Pump. Both of which should be easy to diagnose and eaqually easy to remedy.

I agree
Sounds like the IC pump. I had the same problem. When I would punch it there was no power. They said it was because the SC was getting too hot because the IC pump was bad.

IC pump for sure! You can tell very easily... it feels like a slug without the S/C not engaging..
Thanks guys, yeah, definitely feels like a slug. I will let the SA know that's what we think and go from there. I am also having the "chirp" at take off, SC belt I believe, as well as that early detonation sound as well. Hopefully they can get it all done and they are easy fixes.
Thanks again for your assistance, greatly appreciated.

Update...
Hi all, well I had the IC pump replaced the other day, and the car is a totally new beast. It is stronger and faster than ever before, like a new car with miles!! Traction control is like a Christmas Tree through first and second gear, incredible power. Goin to the track tomorrow with RenntechV12 so it will be interesting to see how she does. Thanks again for your advice and input

You can tell very easily. Upon acceleration, if you car feels like a slug, I mean if it doesn't kick you back in your seat, you super charger is not engaging. And most likely you ahve an IC pump issue.
Humm Can the IC pump begin to fail
Humm I had a MB specialist run a diagnostic and i had my SC clutch come back with 10 errors. I know she has lost some kick to her but she does not run like a slug. NOW sometimes when i accelerate i don't get that kick back.. Its off and on..
Could that be signs of the IC pump beginning to fail.

Most likely the IC pump is intermittently failing! Get it checked out... They should replace it if its intermittent..
hi all,
got the same problem last night. SC was on and off, embarrassing me a few times
but when its fully on, its a monster. i'll take it over to the dealers over the weekend... see how it turns out.

attention all newbies...if you feel your car is not performing at it's peak just replace the IC pump. $100 and 30 mins of your time is all it takes...it's extremely easy to swap out...then if you feel its still feeling sluggish diagnose further..
Do you believe that changing this IC pump could solve? 140k 05
That's because the car stays in gear after you let off and you begin engine braking. Sets you up to accelerate in the right gear of you were to floor it again

They just drive different (read "better") than the older torque converter boxes without lockup clutch
