I know I should put this in the S forum, but the E forum is much more active.

This morning I went to start the car---starter spun fine, but it made no attempt to fire.

My first thoughts are:
1. crank sensor
2. fuel system (pump etc.)
3. coil packs

Anybody ever have this happen? I wonder if disconnecting the battery to reboot would help. The last time I drove the car (wed) it was fine with no indication of a problem.

Needless to say, I am pretty disappointed to have this happen on an 06 w/8000 mi, and I hate to let other people (dealer) work on my cars.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

any indication of a dead battery?.. a lot of E's had issues with battery drain when the vehicle is parked for extended periods... Your service dept. should be able to figure it out for you. Good luck.

My E-500 4-Matic did the same thing. A crank sensor that was out of spec. (resistance not to spec. when checked with an ohmeter) was the culprit

I would just take it to the dealer for warranty. At least you won't have to spend out of pocket costs on the replacement parts, and hooking the car up on the STAR should show the problem.

The battery is fine, it cranks like normal, but doesn't make any effort to fire. Hopefully it is the crank sensor. They are generally not that difficult to change.

I guess I'll have it flat bedded to the dealer--I hate that!

I called the dealer today and they said the car probably had lost communication with the keys.

Sure enough, I went out and cycled the alarm on and off a couple of times with both keys and it starts fine.

The guy said if the car is going to sit for a few days, it is better to have it locked so that it will go through a recognition process before you start it.

Sometimes I think a good old Chevelle would be a lot less nerve racking.

Well, I guess it's not the keys, but the fuel pump module or SAM underneath the rt. rear passenger seat. I guess this module controls everything in the back of the car.

I assume the E cars have the same thing--has anyone had this SAM module go bad?
