Sounds more than okay to me...

Very healthy BEAST....
I think one of our calculator's is wrong lol. When I multiply 417*1.17 I get 487.89.

Your calculations are slightly off because you are adding back 17% hp that you took away from WHEEL horsepower not from crank. That 17% should only be taken from CRANK hp (never the wheel hp).

Here is a way to double check the numbers...

1) Crank_HP * DriveTrain_Loss = Amount_Of_HP_Lost
502.5 * 0.17 = 85.425

2) Crank_HP - Amount_Of_HP_Lost = Wheel_HP
502.5 - 85.425 = 417.075

This shows that if an engine produces 502.5 at the crank and has 17% drivetrain loss, you end up with 417 whp.
You can also combine these two steps/formulas into one step, but I think separating them helps clarify the calculations more.

RennTech usually uses this formula:
Wheel_HP * 1.23 = Crank_HP

Sorry, didn't mean to deviate too much off topic...

MB_Forever, thanks for the explanation. I don't think it is off-topic. I think a lot of folks would find that pretty informative.

Since the 17% loss is based on crank HP, not wheel HP, this won't work. The 417 value is 83% of the crank value (100% - 17%). So, to calculate the crank value, divide the wheel value by 0.83 (83%). In this case, (417 / 0.83) = 502. If the loss is 19%, then divide WHP by 0.81.

Jeff, looks like the IC and SC are fine at this point no failure like in Jay's car. He'll keep at it and update you later.

I hope you guys don't mind, but I also need some help with my numbers from the Dyno Day on Saturday. Here's my chart:

The horsepower number is where it should be, but the torque number is really low at 213ftlbs. There is a spike that shows 242ftlbs, where I think it should be, but I don't know. My car is bone stock with exception of K&N filters with about 800miles to them. Since the E55 guys here seem to the most knowledgeable about horsepower, I wanted to ask here. Hope this is ok. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Regards,

That spike looks more like an HPLC chromatogram than a TQ run. i think something went off there. What are the stock numbers for your car. Can anyone else comment? I wonder if your A/F is right? I dunno this stuff, either.

The stock numbers are 302hp@5850rpm and 302ftlbs@5800rpm. I think the A/F is ok from what the graph reads.

I see what you mean by losing TQ, then. It is a nice flat curve, but you wouldn't expect to lose 25% accross the board? The HP loss looks about normal. Although, the E55s seem to show lower TQ numbers than HP numbers as well, even though the factory numbers are close. Maybe that explains something?

Can anyone comment on what is meant when we say there is a 20% drivetrain loss? Is that HP and or TQ? Are the two values typically affected at the same percentage?

On a side note, why is your printout different than JAY55's?

This chart is the digital one that I requested from the Dyno Shop. They also gave me the paper one but this one showed a little more.

Lensolo:

Mid 240s RWHP for C43s is about right. I have dynoed four of them and the weakest was high 230s, the strongest was high 240s. TQ is arouns 220.

The TQ spike on the red graph is software glitch in Dynojet software. I have seen it pop once in awhile.

If you want to add more power, go with UD pulleys, Powerchip software and Green filters. This combo will put you around 260HP/240TQ at the wheels.

Vadim, Thank you very much! That is exactly the information I was looking for.

Jay...those numbers are nearly identical to mine!!!

I believe I had a 416 @ the wheel hp and 43X lb ft of torque...

At first I did my calculations like Ling did...I guess I'm @ around 500 crank hp...which isn't too bad...
