I had a buddy once who owned a Honda CRX, and in a similar bit of frustration, bought a pickup truck to "haul stuff from Home Depot" for his new house. To my knowledge, he used it only one day for that purpose. The truck has still been a truck ever since.

E55 (for sale if the right offer comes along)...too many others to list
Soooo...how often do you haul trees, or anything else that won't fit in your E55 but will fit in a G55?

A big trunk or SUV will come in handy to haul stuff for my house and my ski stuff.

Happy New Year sweetheart! Haven't talked to you in a while. When we were in Vegas I got a good look at Jay's G55 and liked it. I am really after something with a good amount of power. Not crazy about the look of the G55(sorry Jay), but love the power. BMW's kick butt and sad to say are a bit more reliable than MB so I was thinking that as well. I plan on keeping it stock so I need to start off happy.

Something on 4 wheels..
Well, if you get a 2006 4.8is, the major issues are solved. we had no problems so far..
BTW, this X5 has a louder exhaust sound than my M5....
I'm always pointing out that the 4.8is is totally different than the other two models, but you can see that already. If you are interested in detail-pictures, just click on the link in my signature..

........this can't be a serious dilema. There is a lot of misunderstanding of the G55. Full time all wheel drive with locking differentials plus 500HP and 516Lbft of torque has no rival.
..........understandably not everyone needs all of what the G55 has or appreciates what it has. If you just need something big and tall to carry oversized items, the many options are available. Cadillac Excalaide, BMW X5, Nissan Pathfinder, Nissan Armada, Lexus Lx470, Nissan Murano etc.
.......The G55 is something else.

If anyone is fully aware of what the G55 is it's me. LOL You are talking to a girl that already had a crazy fast modified 211, and just got SLR Cams and SL55 gears. If it was about needing to carry big stuff we would be comparing a Rav and a Passport. LOL
The G55-2006
Is 469hp/516tq & 5590lbs @4.9 / 0-60, 97k
The X5-2006
Is 355hp/369tq & 5016lbs @5.3 / 0-60, 71k
The weight difference really eats up the 0-60 times. The G55 is also 25k more and you really don't get much more for your money. The X5 looks like the best bang for the buck.

No mods for me. I am thinking about leasing this one for a change. The payment will be less and I wont need tons of miles.

Sorry I didn't know that. Just started thinking about this yesterday. I love the color of your X5. My other car is already black and a pain to keep clean, but that color rocks. I thought it would look good in silver.

Titanium Silver Metallic would be a good choice as well. LeMans Blue Metallic and Imola Red are the other options for the 4.8is. Just let me know if you have any other questions...

I've got a 4.4i X5 2004 and my uncles got a G500 which I think is a 2002, might be a 2003.
I prefer the X5 because it's more of what it's supposed to do if that makes sense.
For off roading, I prefer the LX470 because it's a lot larger and a lot more comfortable. The LandCruiser is the same truck but service is different and IMO justifiable for the price hike. Not to mention the reliability on the LX is insanity to the max. Get a decent front bar on the truck and some better tires and you're unstoppable.
Yes, I am slightly biased.

There is not a huge difference in space between the GX470 and the LX470. There are some nagging problems with both, namely the rear axle clunk that makes you feel like you have been rear ended. I have had my driveshaft replaced three times and the dealer still can't get it right. Off-road these vehicles can't be beat especially if you get the KDSS. Plus re-sale will always be better than the BMW or MBZ equivalents.

LX's don't have the axle clunk, I think we talked in AIM about it. If I were you I'd demand the dealer to start replacing things with new parts. Lexus says they are pursuing perfection in their commercials, their cars damn well better be close
KDSS doesn't exist for the GX, AHC exists for the LX. It's like a poor substitude, but the LX is wider (which does make a difference) and feels more comfortable.
You need to drive the X5 and feel how 'hard' it is to drive, and understand the LX is very soft. Make sure you notice things like this, otherwise you'll screw yourself over. We originally got the X5 to be my moms but after a while it was just too hard to drive for her.

2006 E55
never had the clunk in my LX either. Oh, and I forgot to add that even with all the mileage, the AHC and shock dampning still worked as well!!! If Lexus made an E55 equivalent, I would trade mine in without hesitation!!!

I'm waiting to see how the IS-F and the LS600lh play out, if they can repeat what the original LS did back in the early 90's, then expect to see me in another Lexus. Otherwise -- M5 *drool*

'05 E55TK, '00 Brabus/Kleemann 5.8 GCab, '05 CLK DTM
I feel pretty qualified to input on this thread. I've owned a 4.6 X5, 4.4.X5, and an '05 Brabus G55. I loved my X's. Did not love my G55. Way too big of a vehicle to be going that fast. Felt top heavy. Brakes were too sensitive. Mileage was dismal the way I was driving it. Depreciated like a rock. Sold it within a few months of buying it.
What did i just buy? An '07 Touareg V10 TDI. Although I almost bought myself another X5 (and looked at RRSC as well), I decided on the TDI because of the cargo space, torque, beautiful interior, option to go biodiesel, and tunability (ecu tune brings torque to over 600ft.lbs )
Or you could always get a wagon

Ted..Ted..Ted,

........0.4sec diference in 0-60mph time is huge. Further, The 0-60 time for the G55 is 4.7secs, not 4.9 secs. Here is a link to direct head to head acceleration test betwen the two. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...iew_specs.html
......These two vehicles are not in the same acceleratione league, as you'd agree that a 0.6 secs difference in 0-60mph acceleration constitutes a demolishment of the competition. Besides that, the G55 is special not just because of its acceleration. This is a true one of a kind military vehicle. My point is, no offense intended, the X5 is not a G55 alternative. The X5 is like every other SAV out there built on a sedan platform. This is why you get the cushy car-like ride which is prefered by many. I do understand that there are times when such cars like the X5 and its like will suit one's purposes. If that is the case here, then the X5 it is. G55 is indeed something else altogether.
