E500 .vs E55

Hard to believe, but over the Christmas holiday I ate an E55 for lunch with my E500. In the distance in my rearview I see what looks like another Benz. Well I really slow down to get a look see and let him catch up. By golly it’s a beautiful silver E55 with CA plates on it. It shines like a gem stone next to my E which is quite dirty. I give him a thumbs up and he reciprocates. Curious to where he is going I follow him out of town and pull even with him at about 20 mph. With no traffic ahead of us and the closest car 5 - 6 blocks behind, us we give each other the nod and away we go. Well the contest isn’t even close, in just a few seconds time all he sees are my rear tails and I have him by a good 5+ car lengths. I let off the gas and brake slowly as he finally catches up and then continues on his way, both of us giving a toot as I turn off.
I’d like to know who it was and if by chance, it was any one of you fellow forum members. Also like to know what in the world you were doing in Montana with an E55 in the middle of our winter and if you made in home OK. By the way did I mention the roads were snow packed and I have a 4-matic! Even if I don’t find out who it was, I thought you Hi-Performance owners would get a kick out of my kill story.... ......Bill

Do you have any mods on your car?
You'd have to have around $40K in mods to beat a 500 unless the guy just didn't want to go. I am guessing he didn't feel comfortable driving on the snow and ice so he let off. Either that or your 4-matic kicks some serious a$$.

Yeah rain, sleet, snow, our cars drop to nothing but wheel spin.
How about a rematch in July

No performance mods - just some appearance goodies. I’ll bet whoever it was got cold feet on the slick road. Not to mention the 4matic is fantastic on snow and ice. I just can’t for the life of me imagine anybody road tripping with an AMG in Montana during the winter. I’d like to find out who it was as I’ve been curious about it ever since.

He lives in SoCal.

Once the pavement dries, it would be smart to not play with a E55.

I beat a E55 last month with my CLK500. I was cruising at about 50 when I look in my rearview and see an E AMG flying up behind me. I floor it and he passes me. He slows down, we roll at about 45, we both pin it and he starts to pull. We get to a windy section of road, he slows down while I gain a little bit more speed than him. We're neck and neck, but I wind up squeezing in between him and a car parked on the shoulder of the road and I narrowly escaped death but beat him. I guess he wasn't very happy (or he got scared) because after the race he wouldn't come within 5 carlengths of me. I didn't use NOS. I have to say that my friend with Evo Stage 1 E55 got much more of a pull on me while I was using NOS than this guy with his Stock E55 (most likely was stock) got on me with no NOS.

Sorry for giving you guys a wasted story, I just wanted to relive the moment lol. So yeah, he beat me in acceleration but I bested him when the road started to twist and there were other cars involved. I wouldn't be suprised if I would have been able to run even with him on NOS. Or maybe he had one of those reflashed cars with 50 less hp than normal?

Thanks to all who posted this has been a fun thread. I was hoping to shake down who it was and find out how he faired touring on the winter roads with that beautiful E55. It still boggles my mind anyone attempting to drive though Montana this time of year with an AMG. Of course we only have two seasons here, almost winter and winter. Thanks again and I ENVY all of you AMG owners......Bill
