Just wanted to let everybody know that dealerships are now taking lists for people that want to buy the new Z06. They started the list yesterday (at least around here they did). I'm #3 at a local dealership and I was told I would get it at MSRP!!!!! Other dealers are selling at "market" value which I was told is at least $10-15k over sticker but they have a much bigger inventory. I would have been #2 on that list and pretty much guaranteed a car but I decided not to.

No exact price on the car yet. 650-680hp expected. Limited run of 1500-1800 cars for 2008! Just posting this for the car nutz that want first dibs on a badass car!

No thanks. That's how I ended up with the E55. I got bumped from the list to get the C6 Z06 at my local dealership. I have a friend who grew up with the owner of one of the local dealerships so I was able to get on the list; Number 3 to be exact. Lo and behold, as the time got closer, the owner of the dealership started hemming and hawing as I asked about when I could expect delivery of my car. Well...right after the Z06 was released, my friend who introduced me to the owner drove by one day in a Red Z06, the color I ordered. I ended up on the bottom of the pile and was told I would have to pay $15K over MSRP! For a Chevy! I don't think so. Then came the E55. I haven't looked back. OK, that's a lie. I still want a Z06.

I know people with '06-'07 Z06's and they run mid 11's stock. What the heck is this car going to run. It could possibly be the first production car in the 10's
Traction is certainly going to be an issue. I can't even floor my new E63 up here in NY. Pavement is too cold and the car just fishtails.

Another issue concerning Chevrolet is putting that much horsepower in the hands of drivers who's only qualification is having a big enough checkbook to buy the car. Wallace suggested that a high performance driving course might be required for all buyers. He didn't mention any time frame for its introduction, but don't be surprised to see it debut at next year's Detroit auto show.

My last Z06 i got from Kerbecks in NJ. They always come thru for a customer.
If anyone is on their list you are pretty mush assured a car.

I really don't care how fast it is. It is a corvette. Corvettes are for cheese d*cks.
Chevy's are great if you want an SUV that is it.

The Z06 is about the best performance car you can buy for the money.

So what do you call a person that drives a chevy and a AMG? And what do you say when the cheese d*ck is beating you in every single performance category right off the showroom floor? I am a benz enthusiast but by no means elitist. I give props where they are due and the new vettes are INCREDIBLE!

I've been shopping for a 2 seater sports car, and I keep coming back to the Corvette. I looked at the Ford GT, which is fabulous, and fabulously expensive too. I'm concerned about getting the thing serviced at my local, very unimpressive Ford dealer. I looked at the 911 too, and just can't shake that feeling that they are way overpriced for what you get. I can't believe they sell any of the Caymans and Boxsters... they are pathetically underpowered for the price.

There is just no denying that the Corvette is getting better every year and can blow away just about anything out there for less than twice the price. And I think the new C6 is really great looking; a big improvement over any previous incarnation. It finally looks modern and sleek rather than 70's retro-disco-gold-chain.

I know some dealers were getting $20k premiums over MSRP for awhile, but on eBay and Autotrader there are dozens of Z06's at MSRP or a little below now. They are easy to obtain nationally and service locally.

I don't think I'll wait for the supercharged 800 hp whatever. Frankly, the current Z06 capability already exceeds my personal driving skills. It's enough!

And it may sound corny, but I'll be happy to buy American for the first time in decades.

it does look good but i wouldn't expect any of those "artist's interpritations" to make final production...unless of course the new z06 becomes a mid engined car.

Do you think the government will ever restrict HP output in the forseeable future like they tried in Japan? In the 1990 it was 400hp, then 500hp 1 decade later, now 600hp with the Viper and now this.

If this car comes out with 150-180 more hp that the current Z06 which traps 124-129 it could go 140mph in the 1/4.

This thing will envitabley get into the hands of parents kids and end up into twisted metal. Even good drivers could end up killing themselves.

If the math works out this car could go 10.0@140mph and with drag radials. I wonder how many people could keep that kind of car straight on the roads. This thing is going to be sick...probably in the same neighborhood of the $1MM Bugatti which supposedly goes 10.0@145.

Think about that....all for less than a 911 TT and much much faster and damn it looks sweet.

I just got on the list too. Spoke to an Allan at that dealership. He said he could not promise jack (MSRP, etc). Said I was 4th on the list. He asked if I wanted to N/A Z06 or the S/C...is that even a question?

Somehow I don't feel this list is all that official although I did give him my name and #s.

I call him a cheese D*ck with hope. And to the next person I say that is one fast cheese D*ck! There is always going to be SOMEONE faster. At least with a corvette I will have reassurance knowing that he/she looks like a tool while driving fast. I am not an elitist! It is a car, not a person. I do not think I am better because I own a better car I just think I have better taste.

No doubt that Chevy is much much much much better than that flimsy crappy and waaaaaay overpriced and slow z8 and e55 of yours

The current Z06 will run five laps over the z8 and e55 in the track while it grills its cheese and eggs and throw an omelette to the top of the slow z8, laughing at it at the same time

And let's not get started what the new supercharged Z06 will do to the other z wannabe!
