Nope, I don't even think there's an LSD in the 030 package, somebody should correct me if I'm wrong. Major Achilles heel for this car= Narrow rear tires and no LSD. You need to look into an aftermarket quaife.

Any car putting out 500+lbs of torque should be running an 11" rear IMHO minimum. Even then you'd be breaking tires loose like a madman. Its lucky that the E55's have ESP which acts as an "LSD for dummies", but without it the car wouldn't be so much fun. I do believe you can put a max of a 285 series rear tire on the car, but if I owned one I'd definitely have the fenders rolled.

The fenders ARE rolled. 285 is the max back there.

No 030 package available on the E's either.

There is an 030 package for the E63, and it does include the LSD.

As mentioned no standard LSD on the 55. I have the euro AMG LSD and euro axles that were required for it. You can also go with quaife which I hear is good and cheaper but my decision to go with AMG was before quaife was around.

I have to think if I got the euro parts then a euro option was there.

There is indeed an LSD included in the 030 package AND there is an 030 package for the E55. The LSD for the E55 is a 30% locking and the one for the E63 is a 40% locking.
The package retails for about $10K and is now available.

I have not found a US source (other than AMG) for it but am working on getting a European source as we type. Each component is sold separately, and as mentioned before, the quaife is a "better" alternative (in my opinion).

Next, the fenders are rolled. Not enough to hold 11s, but they are rolled some.

For all the absoluters, speak for yourselves. 295s work FINE. You MUST get the offset correct AND be good about strengthening the flex in the drivetrain, but they definitely work.

Perhaps those of you spreading the rumors should add a disclaimer that 295s do not work with a specific setup?

Jangy the 030 for the E55 was not available in the US just in Europe- check with Vadim. You will not find an 030 E55 in the US unless it was basically euro fitted and that would require the buyer to make mods.

Hey Vic55,

I had the AMG LSD Diff installed in my car about 2 months ago. It was a direct bolt in replacing the stock Diff. This was the whole pumkin minus the cover. It was shipped from Germany. I used my stock axles, how come you had to get Euro axles?

That is understood. It was never offerred as a factory option during the E55 production run. However, it is available as a factory accessory. It was just released along with the E63 030 package.
I didn't mean to confuse anyone into thinking that we have had the chance to get the 030 on an E55, because I would have been the first to order it. I am now trying to source parts from the package, which they do offer. However, I am having a hard time since it is such a new option. Most are being allocated as sets and are already designated for European dealerships.
Hope that helps.

The cost is actually more than the aftermarket ones and you need to upgrade the axles as well on the older models. Last time I checked, the cost was right at $5k. I don't know what the straight line help would be, but I'd say minimal on a 30% limited.
The main gains are when the car is in a turn. you can basically add power sooner without worrying about the car coming out.

Jangy is right, the cost is about $5 to $6k. I don't know about the axles. Mine is a 2004 I used stock axles. The Quaife is much more affordable. I think about $2500 plus new seals and install. I lucked out because I needed a new Diff and basically Germany sent the wrong one. My good fortune.

I feel the a LSD is great. Before LSD my car would go side ways with traction off. Now it goes straight and lays down two even rubber tracks. Much more controlable.
