E63 or S550 ?
Sorry to be off topic, but did you had a chance to test S8 yet? I'm considering one and it is indeed a great deal for that price. Love the looks - ultimate sleeper, plenty agressive yet not in your face.
Power...deep in your bag power. The speed builds like a jet fighter off a carrier deck. The drive is smooth but you know it can be brutal if it needs to be. This car is a mighty warrior that can also be as civilized as any.
It's just me and my wife now and rear seat passengers are a rare event and...it's about $12K less than a sport pack S550!!! My wife and I are at odds.
I guess the question is...can a 54 year old man justify owning a car that really belongs in the hands of a man 15~20 years younger? She thinks I'm nuts....cause it would be primarily her car. Would she embarassed to drive it (she's 48 but looks 35) or is it that she's afraid of what she saw that car do to me?
I might be in trouble on this one.
I guess it all comes back to two things...choices....and consequences.

If you have a possibility to buy a car in that price range, I would go for the CLS 63 AMG. I myself am going for the E-class, but its strictly due to the lower price and the better back seat comfort of the E!

A lot of guys I see in their 30s are fat and out of shape. They puff and pant and I can tell by looking at them their blood pressure is elevated and I'd bet their cholesterol is also.
I feel the same emotionally and psychologically as I did when I was cruising the streets of Tampa in 1960 in my 57 Chevy looking for action.
I have a friend in Tennessee who is 62 and still breaks-in his own horses. Most of you will find that whether you are 25 or 75, you're still the same person. You want young women and fast cars.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG

E63 is nice - but body change coming soon - S550 is sweet but lacks the force of the dark side (a.k.a. AMG!)
So I would get neither...

As for the S it is quite elegant and far above the luxury that the E will give you.
You are not too old for an E but if you are used to an S than I would think you might get sick of the E sooner rahter than later.
If your wife drives it more than you than I would assume it is her choice. But if it is the only family car then that is different, you chose.
I might consider saving up and doing the best of both worlds and do the s63 (even though it is slower than a 600 it is also cheaper and will look KILLER)
If that is not an option
my answer is ....
e63 FOR SURE. over the new S

In California with the busy roads the 63's performance probably does not outweight the luxury, interior, and newer body style of the 550 IMO but then this is coming from someone who has had a modded 55 and 65.

As far as the car belonging to a man 15 to 20 years younger that should not be a concern. Counting her car I have 4 Kompressor cars, one of which is fairly well modified and I am far from being a spring chicken. I truly get a kick out of all of the youngsters who like to challenge an old fart only to see nothing but tail lights. In fact a few weeks ago a heavily gold chained young man in a Corvette wanted to play when I was driving my wife's car. Once the E hooked up it was no contest. When we got to the next light he rolled down the window and asked "What the hell is that thing?". My response was "It is my wifes grocery getter" To answer your question ---No embarassment necessary.
In your defense, when people come on here making claims on the looks of their gf / wifes, we do ususally require the picture session.
W211s ain't no more played out then HREs!! LOL! I know you selling that E55 soon. I can just tell. You should be happy to have such a beast. i miss mine so much. Yours has had a good life, though. I gotta give it that. It has been a pimp mobile from way back when. The first time I saw that biatch lift up the front end on a blast I knew I had to mod mine out.
