Oil question

I am a Newbie to the MB world and just got my E63 AMG. As a long standing BMW fan this will be an interesting journey for me.

I searched through the literature that came with the car as well as on the forum regarding the official oil for this engine. Is the official call for Mobil 1 synthetic 0W40?

Car drives great so far, can't wait to unleash its full potential in the next weeks.

OW40 is correct. Sells at your local Auto store for little and no money, unlike the M engines which was only at the stealer for an arm and a leg :-) If you don't mind me asking, why so many cars in such a short period of time? M3, M5, M6, E63? Must be taking quite a hit in terms of buying and selling so often. Anyway, congrats and welcome.

thanks for the advice. Yes, switching cars this often has cost me a small fortune

but i have been in search of that 'perfect car' which I haven't been able to find. However, I feel this one may be the keeper as it is the perfect car for daily commuting while still fast enough to be in the 'super car' territory.

I thought MB dealers are now recommending Mobil1 5W40 in all of the "newer" cars but this might not apply to the E63. In any event, welcome to the forum and congratulations on a beautiful car!

os on the oil issue.

I remember going to the BMW dealer to get oil for my last M5 and begin shocked at what they wanted for it. I seem to remember it was something like 0W/60, or something like that and the dealer had the monopoly on oil.

Tell me about it: Castrol TWS 10W60 and they charge up to $17 a quart at some $tealers. This is a rip-off, especailly since you can't find this oil easily in a store.
