I would not suggest it. I put on 275s and they are a little to big. Just right for me but a little to big on the wheel. No issue with rubbing not even close however it looks alot more aggresive witha 275. I also got ps2's on it and the yellow light doesnt flash half as much as it used to with brand new conti 2's

I have them on mine with no issues at all. You can see a pic of the 285 rears on my fquick page below.

The size would be 285/35/18. I run 275/35/18 on the OEM rims, but I put them on the front. A number of members have run 285s in the rear. It is a definite "bubble" tire on a 9 inch rim, but that woul dactually help hooking up. But, it would make th ehandling more "sloppy". All depends on what you want.

Overall rolling diameter:

265/35/18 = 25.30 inches
275/35/18 = 25.58
285/35/18 = 25.85

Good luck.

A 285/35/18 tire is NOT a manufacturer approved fitment for a 9" wide wheel. 285's require a minimum 9.5" rim. It's really a safety issue. Will they fit? Yes. Should they be fit on a 9" rim? No.

Pinching in the sidewalls by using to narrow a rim induces stresses on the tire it was not designed for. Either stick with a 275, which is approved for a 9" rim, or get the Style IV rim in 9.5" - it's available in that width for the W211 chassis.

Which wheel are you talking about. I ended up taking an SL550 rim (et33) and shaving 4mm from it to get a final et37, and I run a 295 on it. i wasn't aware of a style IV (9.5") for the W211.

Look at jangy's numbers. The taller tires cut down our rather tall gearing even more. You might get better traction but you car might get slower also.

Not just slower, but less responsive as well.

Nice feedback. I see your fleet of cars in your signature (nice!)...

Any video of the E55 & SL65 at "play"? I can't be the only one to ever ask this...

you could use a CLS wheel (9.5 rear)... though, the offset is off by 5mm +/- (not exactly sure but I think that it is a 33mm offset... check your dealer catalogue) I have 275s on the back of mine... and would have considered a 285 but was dissuaded by Luke at tire rack)

Actually, the CLS500 Style IV is too agressive (et27, I think), even with shaving. The '07SL550 Style IV (rear) is indeed et33. I have both and have shaved 4mm off them and the Sl ones fit PERFECT!

So to clarify Jangy:

265-275/35/18 for front or 265-275/40/18?
295/35/18 for rear?

TIA

the CLS AMG style IV is ET 28..

why to aggessive? I'm happy with them on my car... I was worried that they would throw crap up on the side of the car... and it isn't an issue.

I think the issue with that offset is with 295/30/18 size tires on them
