New E55 Owner
Hello everyone, I just bought a 2004 E55. I couldn't be happier. I test drove a new 550, but after test driving the E55 I think I made the right choice. I think I got an ok deal. The 04 has 25400 miles with NAV, Bi xenons, Tire Press Mon, Rear sun shade, Disc changer, a new set of Michelin PS2's and chrome AMG wheels that I wasn't to crazy about at first, but they are starting to grow on me. This car was a certified car which gave me a little piece of mind. This car is under warranty until 6-2010 with the extended warranty I paid to extend an extra year. I paid 54900.00 total. I look forward to driving this car every day, the power from this car will make you smile every time you hit the gas. I'm sure every one here knows has experienced this. Thanks for the info from you guys, I have read alot on this website before I purchased my dream car!!!

Why is everyone buying E55 lately?
Let me see...

danrad
emax
deaded
AW7ME
And... me
Ironically, some members here are having a hard time selling theirs... including me (well not W211)

I think the prices are finally dropping to the point where any service issues may be outweighed by the car you get for the cash. Getting a low mile w211 for mid to low 50's is a pretty hard deal to beat. I've actually been surprised how low sellers have had to go dump their cars. With M5's getting ready to come off lease towards the end of this year and beginning of next, I don't see the prices getting solid until you reach a floor of maybe mid to high 40's. It is hard to see a 500 hp german four door dropping out of the mid 40's until at least 8 years after its in-service date.

I doubt it... I certainly hope so... but I doubt it.
Put it this way... 4-6 years from now (which make it ~8 years for '03-'06), I guess the next generation of 63 engine would have been out... and I'd expect this new engine is an F/I (S/C or turbo'd) w/ 600+hp & 600+tq. This would make 55k 2 engine old and about 100hp shy. As for the model, I'd guess 1 or 1.5 models old.
Look at W210 E55, which is 100+hp and 100+tq shy from W211. W210 price is only in the 20's despite much better build quality.
Having said that, 4-6 years from now, unless AMG doesn't produce significantly better (in terms of engine) than 55k, I'd guess 55k would be in the 20's also (or may be low 30's). Once again, I hope I'm wrong....

The reason I went with a 2004 E55 is the performance and the haul _ _ _ factor. What other car can you get new for under 55K with this kind of performance, comfort and four doors? Maybe the new M3, I read somewhere that the M3 will be available with four doors in a couple years. Lexus IS-F or new C63? These cars are considerably smaller, but I think the E55 will still outperform all as far as speed and overall comfort, but the new C63 will be real close as far as acceleration.

Congrats on your purchase... You are going to enjoy the BEAST! Along with the instant power that comes from the engine, the flip side is that gas prices are going UP! Just an FYI about the warrenty and I fell victim to this myself is that you CPO warrenty starts right after your factory warrenty runs out. It does not extend it per-say. So for instance, u drive 25k miles this year, your factory warrenty runs out and your CPO warrenty kicks in. So worse case scenerio you will have 100k warrenty and 3 years (factory 1 year, CPO 1 year, extended warrenty 1 year). Just a FYI.

This is precisely why I am in the market for an E55. Plus I see 2-3 new ones added each week to sites like Craigslist just in my area. Some are dealers, some are private party but either way there are a bunch of people looking to unload nice E55s.
Too bad deaded took the one I really wanted! Have fun with that, the carbon fiber interior looks so sweet.

2003 E55
You should come by and try it out sometime since I'm just up here in Walnut Creek. I just love this puppy!! I'm going to feel bad until you find the right one. You really should drive out here and check it out.
Hey, BimmerGuy, I was thinking about the Lexus GS too. I really like the 450h and it is *very* quick. But then I drove the BMW 355 and I could not go back. Actually, I ordered a 355 but just before it arrived I decided on the 550because I'm a father and although my six and nine year old kids can squeeze back there fine, they might not like it so much in five years. I went to the dealer to put in my order for a 550 and some chick had just traded in her e55 for a 550i. I saw it sitting there in the lot and it was sooooo pretty that I asked my saleswoman about it. I drove it and fell it LOVE! As far as power it blew away the 335. It was very similar to a 2006 M5 that I drove, but a bit more responsive, imho. MUCH faster than the 550i. The handling was not as tight as the bimmer but that was not as important to me as the quickness (not only off the line but from 70-90mph). And for what they were asking (a bit more than 56k) it was a no brainer. I drove home with this new puppy
Anyway... uh... my point is... hey.. no matter what you're gonna be happy! I love this little car!!!

No way the new M3 is going to be in the price range of 55k. Well, ok, maybe but that's if you don't get any options. I reserve that only for the track junkies that want to strip the car down for driving events. The Lexus ISF? Bleah. The ISF doesn't do anything for me. If I buy a Lexus (and I'm thinking about it), it's going to be a GS430 probably just so I can putz around in it day to day. Hey you can't beat the reliability of a Toyota, plus the 07's and up have the 5th generation of their on board computers which makes any German cars electronics look like crap IMO.
