Actually, Dunlop's R-compound tire is the Super Sport Race. Michelin makes the Pilot Sport Cup.

There's a quick summary of some of the leading street-legal racing tires here: http://www.europeancarweb.com/tech/0...e_r_compounds/

I just ordered a pair of Nitto NT555R2s from Discount Tire for my SL55. If you're interested, I'll let you know what I think of them after they're installed next week.

If you are looking for high grip non-racing tires, the general advice from the auto cross racers is that Yokohama Advan Neovas are the best, followed by Bridgestone's RE-01Rs.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I can't find many choices in the stock SL sizes, either.

Assuming your W211 is running 18s, how about Toyo RA1s: 245/40R18 front and 275/35R18 rear? That ought to be a pretty decent fit. Specifications here: http://www.toyo.com/docs/tires/produ...category=sport

Neither Tire Rack nor Discount Tire seems to carry the RA1s, but these guys do: http://www.bmwwheels.com/bmwwheels_toyo_tires.asp

Some of the forum sponsors might as well.

Good luck!
