New E55 vs the upcoming Audi RS6

How does the E55 compare to the upcoming RS6? I think they both have the same power just that the RS6 is twin turboed so you get that nice BOV and that extra "umph".

Both around the same price I do believe and the RS6 comes in a wagon option

The E55 has way more torque than the RS6 - 700nm versus 560nm if I recall correctly. The E55 chassis should also be better - its a next generation car, not a tarted up version near the end of its model run.

Also HP wise the W211 E55 has 476hp and the RS6 only has 450hp.

Okay well enough about power, I care more about handling then power most the time....and which would corner better? Who would win in an AutoX?

Having a good deal of familiarity with the Audi breed, I would be very surprised if you find that the handling of the RS6 is even close to that of the E55.
I believe the RS6 is going to be a one trick pony--a straight shot artist lacking in 1) great handling 2) interior amenities 3) stylishness 4) resale value. Braking should be solid.

Audi is trying to milk some extra $$ out of the aging A6 lineup with the RS6.
You can bet your life that they haven't put half the engineering effort into its performance/handling qualities that MB or BMW do on their AMG and M models.
That goes for all of Audi's S and R models compared to AMG and M.

Price estimates: RS6 $82-85,000
E55 probably upwards of $76,000, but definitely less.

Resale? Audi is pitiful in this area, while MB is tops.

I can't even imagine why someone would buy an RS6 over an E55 or M5.

Reviews are widely available on RS6, always rated last out of M5, Jag, RS6 comparo's. Also performance is said to be less than officially quoted. Definately wait for new E55. Old model was supposed to be very close to M5, which is still considered to be superior to RS6, new E should be unequivical king.

Reports from European road tests indicate that the RS6 didn't even break 5.0 seconds from 0-62!!
How's that for your $85,000!!
Pretty sad.
Poor Audi, always the stepchild of German car mfrs.

There are comparisons of the RS6 in Autocar, European car as well as EVO. Strange how none use the E55, all are M5 and Jag.

Well I'm guessing that cuz the E55 is an auto, they don't want to compare it to the RS6 and M5.

But I was thinking the current S4 does like 250hp on those two small turbos but once you chip it, its somewhere around 60hp. The beauty of turbos

The E55 is supercharged right? Then it wouldn't be as easy as just to chip it to get 60hp, you'd have to change the pulley, fuel injectors and what not to increase PSI.

RS6 would be left in the smoke compared to the E55 AMG's almost flat torque curve. 0-60, the Audi will lose, 0-124, well, lets not embarrass Audi fans too much.

Maybe..... It's all about traction and those things are beasts for the short blasts from a stop. To 124 I agree you'll catch up, but for the short run.... I dunnooo... Remember its over in < 5 secs.

Hmmm... Well at steady state and unless my math is wrong 88ft/sec @ 60 MPH so .2 sec is ~17.5 ft. I assume you are looking for cumulative effect of a .2 sec better 0-60 time? That I do not know but believe it to be > 2 inches. BTW: Where does .2 secs come from?!?

FWIW: I've run against a number of high performance AWD cars before, even owned one, and their launch is a huge benefit to them in these short sprint races.

Simple physics!

Velocity = acceleration x time

Suppose one car can do 0 - 60 in 5.0 seconds. That's 88 feet/sec in 5.0 sec, or an acceleration of 17.60 ft/sec/sec. A car that can do it in 4.8 seconds accelerates at 18.33 ft/sec/sec. I am assuming linear acceleration here, which is a simplification.

Distance is one half times acceleration times the elapsed time squared, x = 0.5*A*T*T.

For a 5 second race, the faster car would cover 229.17 feet, the slower car 220.00 feet. So a 0.2 second 0 to 60 time advantage is about 9 feet when the faster car hits 60; less than a car length.

After asking opinions through a couple boards(This one being more biased seeing as how nobody picked the RS6), I would only go for the E55 seeing as how its slightly more reliable than the Audi.

Tunablility goes to the RS6 because of it being turboed(Don't debate, its easier to get more boost out of a turbo than S/C)

Styling....I lean towards the RS6 more.

You lean more towards the RS6's 6 year old bland non-descript body style (which is about to be updated) than the new E55's fresh shape and style?
Hmmmmm.
What about interiors? One of the negatives for all Audis compared to similar BMW's and MB's.

Watch the resale on that RS6.
I'll bet you that thing depreciates over $45,000 in 3 years.
Killer whether you're leasing or buying.

I prefer the old 10 year Dodge Viper styling than the new BMW Z4's FRESH shape and style. Oooh yes, it is fresh and new the Z4.
