Blue smoke when I started my car tonight!

I went out to start it tonight and noticed a nice puff of blue smoke at the back of the car, is this normal after running the car hard the day before? Car is a 03' with 32k on it, could it be the rings letting a little oil slide by? Any help is greatly appreciated.

She has 24hrs to live When's the last time you changed the oil? Could be nothing, or possibly running too rich Sure others in the know will chime in.

yes blue - I thought that meant the rings are bad. I hope that's not the case. I do have to take it in next week to have the IC pump replaced, I think I'll have them drop me a new engine in while they're at it.

Don't worry, But keep your eye on it. I think it is ingesting some oil through the crankcase ventilation system on cold start. Do a search on "catch can" this device can prevent oil from entering your induction system.

EDIT!

Here is the best link.
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...ighlight=catch

I think after a hard run the oil mist in the crankcase vent system pools, in the hoses, and is sucked in at start up.

Overnight leakdown used to point to valve seals...not sure what these engines use though. It may just be a rich cold start too.

Thanks guys - on that hard run last night I found out my S/C is shutting down after two hard runs, so I called the service guy at MB and asked him if the IC pump had ever been replaced, and of course it hadn't.

Wasn't there a recall awhile back for this problem? I also told him not to flash my ECU to reduce the HP, can they flash it just to clear the high heat codes?

I read a thread about this same problem and they (MB) reduce the guys HP to help keep the S/C cool.

I hope my car is not a lemon in the making.
