NEW BRAKES --Dealer or Private??--
Hey guys,
So my brake light comes on the other day and I'm hearing alot of squeeling when I'm comin to a stop. I can't imagine how much the dealership is gonna charge, but can a private shop do the same work? Is there anything in our brake system that only the dealer should touch? Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

E63, SL 550 Sport,C63 Coupe On the Way!!
I am curious too. I heard that these cars have Electronic Brake Assist and that you need STAR OBD tool to turn it off otherwise the calipers will contract when you try to replace pads. How true this is I clearly dont know if its a falacy or not.
I know the E55 loaner i had the brake pedal pulsated my E63 does not i guess this EBA is an option or was one at some time.
Someone fill us both in

I did mine myself and will do the fronts when it's time. No need for special equipment, just unplug the SBC unit. Dealer cost will be less that what I paid in the post but if you want a good laugh call them and ask how much. Parts for a front brake job (replacing rotors and pads) should be in the $500-600 range.

Car Whore
And apparently they can't replace just the pads, the rotors need to be done at the same time since theyre designed to wear together for best performance.
